The Challenge

The Solution

Brookson was a victim of its own success. Due to massive growth it had outgrown its existing printing equipment. Costs were spiraling, and the company was experiencing regular printer breakdowns, which were impacting on productivity, so achieving deadlines was sometimes impossible. Something had to be done, and so Document Express was given the challenge of helping Brookson to reduce and gain control of its printing cost, whilst increasing productivity by providing industry leading service levels.

In August 2006, Andrew Fahey, IT Director, Brookson, recognised that the company needed help in identifying a printing solution that would meet the organisation’s new print requirements and offer the flexibility to grow in line with its aggressive expansion plans. However, because of the growing pains that Brookson had already been experiencing, which had massively impacted on productivity, Andrew Fahey decided that the organisation needed a long-term print strategy and not just a quick fix.

Andrew Fahey contacted Document Express as the two organisations had a history of working together and he wanted a business partner who was willing to understand his issues. Following discussions regarding the company’s business reqauirements, product demonstrations and the agreement of service levels, Brookson chose to implement a solution based on the new Xerox Phaser 5500 laser printers, supported by a fully inclusive, ‘toner cost per page’ PagePack service agreement.

Due to the nature of Brookson’s business, some days the new Xerox Phaser 5500 has to produce 10,000+ documents on Brookson’s own bespoke media, which then has to be posted to the members on the same day, which is critical to the company’s continuing growth and success. Since the new solution’s implementation the machines have never missed this deadline. In addition, the PagePack agreement ensures that Brookson has a constant supply of consumables and 24 hour, online technical support should it be needed.
