In recent years, more breast augmentation patients expressed interest in the possibility of using fat grafting for their breast enlargement. In response to this increased interest of patients and to educate women about the current state of medical knowledge on the subject, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) announced that they do not recommend the use of fat grafting for breast augmentation. Fat grafting is a process in which the fat cells move from one body part to another - which is most commonly used for the face and hands improve procedures. Although this technique has been used for over 20 years, the procedure has shown limited success when used for breast augmentation, as the transferred cells have a low survival rate and is often absorbed by the body, which means that the results increase tend to be temporary. Recent technological innovations, including the use of "stem cells" may be the viable option for patients who want breast augmentation, but, as always, little data has been collected to support the efficacy of the procedure.
