Goldhofer

Goldhofer to build trailers in US Heavy-duty and specialized transportation equipment manufacturer Goldhofer plans to establish its first North American production facility in Hickory, North Carolina, the Memmingen, Germany-based company recently reported.

Goldhofer will invest more than $20 million in the project, creating at least 80 new jobs by the end of 2030, the company stated. The aim is to “significantly strengthen”

its manufacturing and service capabilities across the North American market.

The new Hickory facility will be constructed on Lot 5 at Trivium Corporate Center, with an initial 80,000-squarefoot production hall. Additional phases of development are planned as the company continues to expand its footprint and meet growing customer demand throughout North America.

Wabash adds Truck Source Inc. to West Coast network Wabash has formed a new partnership with Truck Source Inc., a Portland, Oregon-based full-service trailer dealership. The partnership is designed to strengthen Wabash’s ability to serve fleets operating throughout the growing I-5 corridor and greater Phoenix market.

Truck Source will offer Wabash’s complete lineup of dry van trailers, platform trailers, and truck bodies, along with warranty support, maintenance, and replacement parts. Since its founding in 2002, Truck Source has been a family-owned truck and trailer dealership with more than two decades of experience serving transportation customers. The company provides trailer and truck sales, maintenance, repairs, parts, and fleet support, building long-term relationships through responsive service and dependable support that helps fleets maximize equipment uptime.

Hyundai Translead expands dealer network to support hydrogen truck adoption Hyundai Translead recently expanded its commercial vehicle dealer network by adding Tom’s Truck Center as an authorized dealer for the Hyundai Xcient Fuel Cell truck. The company, which manufactures commercial transportation equipment and supports advanced vehicle technologies, is expanding sales and service access for hydrogen-powered trucks in Southern California.

Tom’s Truck Center will provide sales, service, and deployment support for the Xcient Fuel Cell truck, giving fleets additional resources as they evaluate hydrogen-powered vehicles for regional and vocational applications, including temperature-controlled operations that

depend on reliable vehicle uptime.

through California’s HVIP program.

Looking ahead, the dealership is working with Total Hydrogen Solutions to develop a permanent hydrogen refueling station in Santa Fe Springs, expected to open in late 2027 to support long-term fleet operations.

The Trailer for a Cause build was completed in early June, just in time for Henry’s Heroes’ 4th Annual Walk, where it was on display with information about the upcoming auction.

The Henry’s Heroes’ Walk brought together over 750 participants, volunteers, and NICU families, who all joined together to support families experiencing a NICU stay. For organizers, one of the most meaningful parts of the day is seeing the recipient families connect with one another, share their stories, and realize they are not alone in the journey.

Beyond financial assistance, the Henry’s Heroes team provides care packages, quilts, gift cards, and meals for NICU families and staff throughout the year. With the support of the community, Henry’s Heroes has provided assistance to 78 NICU families since 2023.

TEN expands Canada footprint with sale-leaseback trailer deal The Transportation Equipment Network (TEN) recently completed an enterprise lease agreement with Shabad Transport, involving 92 dry van trailers in Canada. The saleleaseback structure allows Shabad Transport to convert fleet assets into working capital while continuing to operate the equipment under a long-term lease.

“In this environment, access to capital and flexibility matter more than ever, and we worked closely with the Shabad Transport team to build a solution that puts capital back in their hands and positions them for the road ahead,” Hooman Yazhari, TEN CEO,

said. “This agreement is an example of how we work with customers to align equipment strategy with their business goals and help them navigate uncertainty with confidence.”

The deal is designed to improve financial flexibility, strengthen the balance sheet, and support gradual fleet modernization without disrupting operations. The agreement also extends a long-term relationship between the two companies and reflects TEN’s continued expansion in the Canadian market.

The deal follows TEN’s $50 million agreement with USA Truck, announced in January.

INDUSTRY News Aebi Schmidt marks one year since Shyft Group deal, NASDAQ listing One year after the landmark acquisition of The Shyft Group and its subsequent listing on the New York NASDAQ (ticker: AEBI), Switzerland-based Aebi Schmidt Group is signaling a successful transformation into a unified global powerhouse within the specialty vehicle sector.

The update suggests a plan for how cross-border consolidation can drive operational excellence and aggressive market expansion.

Surpassing financial benchmarks The primary indicator of the merger’s success lies in its ability to exceed original efficiency targets. Aebi Schmidt has officially raised its annual run-rate synergy goal from an initial pre-merger range of $30 million to at least $40 million today,

NTEA – The Work Truck Association has released a revised edition of its Federal Excise Tax Guide for the Work Truck Industry, a comprehensive reference designed to help commercial vehicle professionals understand and navigate one of the industry’s most complex federal tax requirements.

Originally published in 2011 and authored by Rose-Michele Nardi, partner at Mullins Law Group, the guide has been updated to reflect significant developments affecting the application of the 12% FET including recent court decisions, IRS guidance, regulatory developments, and other legal interpretations issued since the previous edition.

The publication also incorporates clarifications and expanded discussion on several key compliance topics to help readers evaluate increasingly complex tax scenarios.

TerraVest expands tanker footprint with SPV acquisition TerraVest Industries recently acquired Superior Pressure Vessels (SPV), a Canadian manufacturer of pressurized transport tanks and trailers.

Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, SPV is a well-known manufacturer of pressurized tank trailers serving the Canadian

market. The company, which also services tankers, has a loyal brand following, a reputation for quality, and has been in business for over 45 years, TerraVest reported.

“SPV further enhances our manufacturing capabilities and competitiveness in our Compressed Gas Equipment division,” TerraVest CEO Dustin Haw said in a news release. “I would like to welcome the owner of SPV, Byron Dyck, and all the employees of SPV to TerraVest.”

TerraVest, a publicly traded manufacturer of transportation equipment also headquartered in Canada, last year acquired EnTrans International and its tank trailer brands, including Heil Trailer and Polar Tank, along with LBT and Tankcon in separate deals for a combined $582 million.

Additionally, EnTrans acquired B&R Repair earlier this summer in an expansion of its tank trailer service capabilities.

GLOBAL News West European trailer market forecast 2026-2030: recovery and growth trends emerge Clear International has issued its June 2026 forecast for the West European Heavy Goods Trailer Market.

The West European trailer market is the midst of a “marked recovery,” growing by 8.8% in the second half of 2025 compared with the same period in 2024, according to Clear International’s latest forecast for the West European heavy goods trailer market. Momentum has continued into 2026, with demand rising by 10.7% in the first four months of the year.

For 2026, trailer demand in Western Europe will grow by 7%, with even stronger expansion expected in 2027–2028, the Clear report forecasts.

“After weak new trailer demand in 2023-25 significant pent-up demand has developed,” said report author Gary Beecroft, director of Clear International.

“In 2027 and 2028 economies will strengthen in terms of both GDP in general, and also investment levels. The trailer replacement cycle will also be favorable until the end of the decade.”

So far, the war in Iran appears to have no impact at all on the trailer registration figures in 2026, the report noted.

However, it is already causing inflation in Western Europe. Expected interest rate cuts have already been postponed in Europe and elsewhere.

There is anecdotal evidence of trailer orders being cancelled plus a lack of new orders, the Clear report adds.

As a result, the forecast for trailer demand in 2026 had been reduced—”but not by a large amount.” The forecasts for Denmark and the UK have actually been increased for 2026 as a result of strong demand in January to April.

The forecast demand for five other countries have small increases and the remaining eight have lower forecasts.

If the Iran war can be ended soon, a catastrophic fall in business confidence can be avoided and further downgrades of the outlook for trailer demand will not be necessary, per the report. Otherwise a fall of more than 15,000 trailers below the forecast level for 2026 is possible, primarily caused by a fall in business’s willingness to invest in new equipment.

Further into the future, “we can be almost certain” that the market will experience a cyclical downturn by the end of the decade, the report states.

European economic outlook Road transport demand in Western Europe fell by 4.0% in 2023, but returned to growth with increases of 0.6% in 2024 and 0.7% in 2025. More robust expansion is anticipated in the years ahead.

Meanwhile, the OECD Composite Leading Indicators for May 2026 show Germany, France, the UK, Italy, and Spain all above the trend level of 100, signaling improving economic conditions over the next six months.

“Economic growth in the region will remain moderate but positive for the next three years. Interest rates and inflation have been knocked off course by the war in Iran,” Beecroft said. “A rapid resolution will prevent serious damage to the market for commercial vehicles in 2026. Pent-up demand caused by three years of weak trailer sales will boost the recovery. It is possible that many economic forecasts for Western Europe are too pessimistic.”

Wabash Q2 report signals turning point

H

as the freight recession finally turned the corner, and are fleets ready to start buying more equipment? And how are midyear hopes for a second-half turnaround any different this summer than last year, or the year before? Wabash contends the rebound is underway.

The publicly traded trailer and truck body manufacturer reported second-quarter 2026 financial results that, while still reflecting the challenges of a prolonged downturn, provided the strongest evidence yet of a market recovery.

The company beat Wall Street’s revenue expectations, and management expressed a high degree of confidence that the “step forward off the bottom” has begun, bolstered by an atypical

surge in backlog and significant shifts in federal trade policy.

“We are seeing a healthier combination of supply-side forces, safety-focused federal-led enforcement, and improving carrier economics. These factors are beginning to translate into better market fundamentals,” Wabash President and CEO Brent Yeagy said in a July 29 conference call with investment analysts.

“Spot rates, contract rates, and tender rejection rates are moving in a direction that supports improved carrier profitability, and that matters because carrier profitability is what ultimately frees up capital to support increased replacement demand expenditure.”

For the quarter ended June 30, Wabash’s revenue of $417.2 million represented a 9.1% year-over-year decline but significantly outperformed analyst estimates of $402.9 million. The Transportation Solutions segment, the company’s core

“The trailer buying cycle has moved. Our customers are planning their 2027 fleet acquisitions right now, not in October, and they need us on their timeline,” said Wabash President and CEO Brent Yeagy.

“Fleets that plan early should be rewarded with better visibility, better certainty, and better availability in a manner that supports their business needs.”

The decision follows months of direct conversations with fleets whose 2027 acquisition planning is already underway, the Wabash statement noted. Customers

have consistently asked for earlier access to configurations, delivery windows, and pricing so they can align trailer procurement with capex approvals, tractor orders, and route planning cycles.

“Accepting orders for 2027 production van trailers now gives customers clarity on configurations and delivery windows, so that they can manage most effectively their total cost of ownership and ability to generate revenue, in one conversation,” said Drew Schwartzhoff, chief commercial officer of Wabash. “Independent industry data supports the shift. Trailer order activity in early 2026 came in ahead of typical seasonal patterns, and analysts have noted a broader pull-forward in fleet planning as operators work to secure capacity and manage cost volatility in an improving freight environment.”

driver, generated $354.7 million in revenue, while the Parts & Services segment showed resilience with a 6.1% year-overyear increase to $63.4 million.

Profitability remains a challenge as the company works through older, lower-priced backlog while absorbing inflationary material costs. Wabash reported a GAAP operating loss of $25 million.

Improving carrier economics A central theme of the Q2 earnings call was the conviction that the freight market is finally correcting. Yeagy pointed to several key indicators: • spot rates continued to strengthen, rising to approximately 40% above last year by June and surpassing contract rates; • tender rejection rates have moved above 16%, which represents the highest levels since 2018; • the ATA for-hire truck tonnage continues to run ahead of the prior year; • the ISM Manufacturing Index has been in expansionary territory for 6 consecutive months; and • the Logistics Managers’ Index reached its highest level since early 2022.

“We are encouraged by the direction of these data points, and we are also encouraged by our own backlog. Backlog grew to $956 million at the close of Q2 2026, a 14% increase quarter over quarter,” Yeagy said. “While continuing the double-digit growth that was experienced in the first quarter, the more important point is the pattern. This was the first time in the company’s history that we had experienced backlog growth in the second quarter. That tells us that the customers are beginning to move from deferral to committed demand as they work to stop the 3 years of fleet aging.”

Also in an unusual move, Wabash opened its 2027 order book in late June— months earlier than normal. This was done in response to customers seeking

earlier visibility into delivery windows and pricing as they look to stop three years of fleet aging. (See the sidebar.)

Tariffs and trade disputes Wabash management expects the back half of 2026 and all of 2027 to be influenced significantly by trade issues.

The company has been a vocal advocate for relief against what it describes as “unfairly traded imports.” Several trade policy developments are expected to “level the playing field” for domestic manufacturers: AD/CVD Rulings: Affirmative preliminary rulings have established significant duties on Chinese imports.

Countervailing duties are set between approximately 82% and 129%, while anti-dumping duties are approximately 131%.

Section 232 Tariffs: Recent modifications to Section 232 have resulted in a 25% tariff rate being applied to the full customs value of imported trailers.

Additionally, these tariffs and duties are stackable. Wabash, which procures approximately 95% of its materials from the U.S., maintains the company is uniquely positioned to benefit from these changes. Management believes these policies will favorably shift industry dynamics starting in late 2026, allowing Wabash to gain market share and restore disciplined pricing across the industry.

“It is not taking into account anything with countervailing or anti-dumping pricing factors at this stage. So we feel very comfortable on the general market economics in terms of the pricing levels that we’re able to quote, win, and achieve right now.”

Wabash is also preparing its manufacturing footprint for an expected high-volume 2027.

The Lafayette South plant has added 10,000 units of dry van capacity, providing the ability to handle a market return to “replacement level” demand.

Management and industry forecasters such as ACT Research and FTR anticipate a significant jump in the trailer market to roughly 260,000 units in 2027, driven almost entirely by dry van demand. TBB

Pricing recovery, build outlook With demand signals flashing green, Wabash is now focused on recovering the inflationary costs it absorbed during the downturn.

“In Q1 and early Q2, we weren’t really in a great place from a pricing standpoint. That had really changed coming into mid-second quarter. We’ve made substantial pricing increases in almost 3-week increments for the last 9 to 12 weeks with the amount of backlog that’s flowed into the business,” Yeagy said. “We’re pricing today based on the reasonable expectation of covering the inflationary costs that we’ve received over the last two to three years. So it’s a relatively straightforward conversation with our customers.

or years, distributors and upfitters have become experts at helping customers select the right snowplows and spreaders. Sprayers, however, remain a newer category for many dealerships. Yet as winter maintenance continues to evolve, liquid application equipment is becoming one of the biggest opportunities for equipment sales.

Several market forces are driving this shift. Salt shortages have highlighted the need for contractors to stretch available materials further, and environmental concerns continue to place greater emphasis on reducing salt use. At the same time, advances in equipment technology have made liquid application systems more accurate, easier to operate, and more profitable than ever before.

For distributors and upfitters, this presents an opportunity. Contractors who have relied almost exclusively on

granular deicing materials are increasingly looking at anti-icing and liquid deicing as additions to their winter maintenance programs. Understanding what drives these purchasing decisions — and how today’s sprayers solve real business problems — can help dealers confidently sell equipment in this growing category.

Start with the customer’s business challenges Selling sprayers isn’t about convincing customers to replace equipment they already own. Instead, it’s about helping them address challenges that traditional spreading alone cannot solve.

Many contractors today face tighter material budgets, unpredictable salt availability and increasing pressure to operate more efficiently. At the same time, newer legislation is encouraging contractors to reduce salt usage, while commercial property owners expect safer surfaces with faster response times. Liquid anti-icing directly addresses these concerns.

For customers dealing with uncertain salt supplies, liquids also extend the usefulness of available inventories by maximizing the effectiveness of every pound of salt.

Sell documentation, not just equipment

Should questions arise after a winter event, these records provide valuable evidence showing when properties were serviced, what materials were applied and under what conditions. For many professional contractors, these types of documentation capabilities have become a deciding factor when investing in premium equipment and new technologies.

Connected equipment creates additional value Connectivity has become another major differentiator.

Integrated GPRS capabilities allow fleet managers to monitor equipment in real time, viewing vehicle locations, application rates and operating status from virtually anywhere.

More importantly, some of these systems enable managers to make adjustments remotely. Application rates can be updated during a storm, property boundaries modified or routes optimized without requiring drivers to return to the shop.

Some platforms can even recommend routes based on travel distance, workload and anticipated refill requirements, helping contractors reduce fuel consumption while increasing route efficiency. For contractors managing multiple trucks across large service areas, these capabilities can create significant cost savings and operational improvements.

Don’t overlook combination equipment Many contractors are interested in liquids but aren’t ready to dedicate an entire truck solely to spraying. For those customers, combination spreader/sprayer units provide an attractive middle ground.

These systems allow contractors to spread granular materials while also pre-wetting salt for faster activation and improved retention on pavement. They can also switch to full liquid application when conditions call for it.

The flexibility offers several advantages. For instance,

a single truck can perform multiple winter m a i nt e n a nc e t a s k s without requiring separate dedicated vehicles.

Contractors gain the ability to adapt to changing weather conditions while reducing fleet size, maintenance requirements and equipment costs.

For distributors, combination units often represent an excellent solution for customers taking their first steps into liquid applications without completely changing their existing operations.

Help customers choose for the long term While features attract attention, durability often determines long-term customer satisfaction.

Liquid application equipment operates in one of the industry’s most corrosive environments. Stainless steel construction, corrosion-resistant plumbing components and reliable pumping systems may increase upfront cost, but they often reduce maintenance expenses and extend equipment life.

Likewise, distributors should help customers evaluate total operating costs rather than focusing exclusively on purchase price. Electric drive systems, for example, typically require less maintenance than gasoline-powered alternatives while simplifying seasonal service. Customers who understand the long-term financial benefits of features like this are more likely to recognize the value of premium equipment.

A growing opportunity for dealers The growing popularity of liquid application doesn’t mean spreaders are disappearing. Granular deicing will remain an essential part of winter maintenance for years to come.

Instead, sprayers represent another tool contractors can use to improve efficiency, expand their services and better respond to changing customer expectations.

For distributors and upfitters, that creates an opportunity to broaden conversations beyond traditional snowplows and spreaders. By understanding how liquid application improves profitability, reduces material usage and simplifies operations, dealers position themselves as trusted advisors rather than equipment suppliers.

As more contractors add liquids to their winter maintenance programs, those dealerships prepared to educate customers on today’s sprayer technology will be well positioned to grow alongside one of the industry’s fastest-evolving equipment categories. TBB

t’s a rite of spring for snow and ice control professionals, and the 2026 version of the American Public Works Association’s North American Snow Conference once again brought together industry leaders for four days of education, technical tours, and networking. EQUIPMENT FOCUS | Snowplows Hilltip introduces IceStriker LION 8-15 highway combi spreader Hilltip recently introduced its line of IceStriker 8-15 Highway Combi Spreaders, high-capacity truck-mounted spreaders/ sprayers engineered to meet the demanding requirements of highway and municipal winter maintenance operations, as well as contractors servicing larger projects.

Available with dry material capacities ranging from 8 to 15 cubic yards, the IceStriker LION also has liquid de-icing, anti-icing and pre-wetting capabilities. It comes standard with lateral liquid tanks, and up to four front-mounted tanks can be added to provide greater capacity. An optional dual spray bar is offered to create a 40-foot working width for de-icing applications.

The IceStriker LION is available with either hydraulic or 24V/48V electric drive. Additionally, customers can choose between a 20-inch-wide chain conveyor or extra-large dual augers to feed material to the spinner. A stainless-steel inverted-V reduces heavy start-up loads on the augers or conveyor, while the standard automatic vibrator helps material flow freely.

Other key features include 304 stainless-steel construction, which offers superior corrosion resistance. The spreader is also available with in-cab adjustment for spreading symmetry, giving operators precise control over material distribution without leaving the cab or manually repositioning the spinner.

The IceStriker LION comes with Hilltip’s Strikesmart controller and exclusive HTrack tracking software, which features GPRS two-way communication channel for remote monitoring, management, and reporting capabilities. This control interface works in conjunction with existing central hydraulic systems installed on the chassis.

For enhanced intelligence, the optional Strikesmart Plus controller paired with the TempStriker sensor monitors current and forecasted weather conditions, using the real-time data to recommend optimal material types and application rates automatically.

The flexible design of the IceStriker LION 8-15 Combi Spreader is available with numerous options, allowing customers to configure the unit to meet their individual needs. These include an end-of-material alarm system, flip-down ladder with handrails, leg stands with hook lift frame, and a two-piece tarp mechanism for effortless opening and closing.

Trailer, truck, and body OEMs Great Dane recently appointed Eddie Martin executive vice president and chief commercial officer (CCO). Martin will lead Great Dane’s commercial strategy and sales organization, overseeing initiatives that drive revenue growth, strengthen customer relationships, and align commercial efforts across the business. Martin brings more Eddie Martin than 30 years of commercial leadership experience across manufacturing and industrial markets. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President of Sales at PCNA. Prior to PCNA, Martin held several notable senior leadership roles at WestRock, GE Industrial Services, and GE Appliances.

Tremcar recently named John Bennett as northeast senior sales representative for the Tremcar and Boston Steel DOT 406 tank truck and trailer product line. Bennett brings over 26 years of experience in the tanker industry. He began his career as a welder and, since 2014, Bennett has speJohn Bennett cialized in tank sales, developing extensive expertise in fuel transportation equipment.

Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) recently appointed Craig Redshaw as head of U.S. plant operations, overseeing manufacturing facilities in North Carolina and Oregon. Redshaw will oversee production performance across safety, quality, and cost while working with Craig Redshaw plant leadership to improve consistency across facilities. He brings more than 30 years of manufacturing experience and most recently served as general manager of the Mount Holly, South Carolina, and Portland, Oregon, truck manufacturing plants.

Workhorse recently appointed Jody Davis as CFO, replacing retiring CFO Bob Ginnan. Davis is a finance executive with approximately 15 years of finance leadership experience across manufacturing, energy storage, aerospace, and technology companies, with a track record of closing large capital Jody Davis rounds and guiding developmentstage businesses into full production. His experience includes roles in strategic finance, capital formation, capital markets, treasury, financial planning and analytics, as well as building the finance infrastructure needed to support capital intensive companies as they move from development into commercialization and production.

Polar King International recently appointed Matt Atkinson as field service manager. Atkinson will oversee the development and expansion of Polar King’s field service operations. Sales and rental Sims Crane & Equipment recently appointed Mike Kuffermann chief operating officer. During that time, the parts department grew from a few employees to a team of more than 50 people under his leadership.
