Dancing, wine, Italian food on tap By Geoff Mintz Special to the Mountaineer The Samaritan Counseling center is throwing its first annual Midsummer Masquerade on July 11. The party will be held at Vail Christian High School and will be featuring live music by Peter Fontanese. The cost is $75 per person, which will benefit the Counseling Center; however, they are not intending that this be a huge fundraising push. The purpose is more for everybody to have a good time and spread awareness about their organization. “It should be the party event of the summer,” said Executive Director Elizabeth Myers. “There will be dancing, food, beer, wine and champagne.” The menu will be Italian-themed specially prepared by an Italian cook. The Samaritan Counseling Center is a communitybased counseling center that offers professional counseling, educational and consultation resources for individuals, families and organizations in the Vail Valley and surrounding counties. Founded in 1997, the Center’s objective is to empower individuals and families to live independent lifestyles free of mental health and addiction. They provide emotional healing, guidance and support through professional, spiritually-integrated, counseling and education. Since it opened its doors, the Samaritan has provided over 13,000 hours of counseling and education for people in the area that wouldn’t be able to afford it otherwise. “The objective is to help people who can’t afford ac-
