SPRING SOCIAL EVENTS: BUS HIKE: Three Falls and A Winery (Apr. 2016) By Jane Shifflett
On a perfect spring day 43 people boarded a bus and were driven to Hogg’s Falls which is located close to Flesherton in Grey County. It is one of the 10 waterfalls that can be visited in Grey County. There we met one more person and started our 7.1K hike. First we looked at Hogg’s Falls. The Boyne River plunges down creating a beautiful waterfall. Then we hiked up, down and around on the Bruce Trail. In this hardwood forest we spied some spring flowers including bloodroot, trout lily and violets in bloom while others such as trilliums were only in bud. With no leaves on the trees we were able to enjoy fantastic vistas. We used recently constructed bridges to SUMMER SOLSTICE POTLUCK (June 2016) go over some streams and climbed over and walked We gathered at Riverside Park for a fine evening of around some stiles but most of all we enjoyed the walk and the company. At the end of the hike we saw Eugenia conversation and great food. The weather cooperated, Falls. There was free time after lunch to do some exploring and then we rode the bus to Webwood Falls. This falls is located on a nature reserve that is part of the Bruce Trail Conservation Corridor. After a group picture was taken by Bob Fanning we went to Georgian Hills Vineyards to sample wine. It was a delightful day.
Thanks to Peter Jasper-Farley for leading the hike and Cynthia Cork for being our sweep. Thanks to Gayle Jeffries and Christine Bando for helping with reservations. Gitta Houser and Florence White provided some snacks and extra water which we all enjoyed. For complete waterfall information visit www.visitgrey.ca/waterfalls
We highly recommend this hike between the falls, and also suggest that it would be a great place to go in the fall to see the colourful fall leaves.
