During the design phase, BRM Maritime coordinates and ensures the overall design and the design process of any vessel, solving technical and operational challenges, evaluating cost-efficiency, carrying out drawing appraisals and providing best practice advice.

Case: Design appraisal of a pipe layer vessel Customer: China National Offshore Oil Corporation During the development phase CONTRACT of aINNOVATE pipe layer vesselDESIGN new- BUILD building, the customer needed advice on issues not covered by classification including design, capabilities and capacities, the stinger arrangement and the stinger strength.

DNV utilized its competence OPERATE RECYCLE on pipe layer and experience ships and its systems and guidelines for drawing appraisal, specification review and verification work.

BRM Maritime evaluated the ship's design, arrangement and equipment against the building specification looking at functionality, maintainability and best practice, assuring that the customer's newbuilding was fit for purpose.

The stinger strength verification was carried out according to the customer's requirements and DNV's recommended standards.

During its operational life a vessel will encounter numerous events such as conversions in order to adapt to new or changing markets, changes of ownership or incidents. Such events are subject to variable, multi-faceted and complex risks that need to be controlled.

Case: Assessment of a classic cruise liner for ”new life” conversion Customer: Victoria Cruises With the intention of purchasing Saga Rose and rebuilding her for local cruising in China, the customer needed a conversion feasibility study, condition assessment,

appraisal according to SOLAS 2010, required repairs and refurbishment, and life extension prediction. The work consisted of a desktop study and an onboard assessment.

The DNV team, consisting of both technical expertise and cruise ship hotel and operations expertise, delivered an overview of the vessel’s history, a condition assessment

of the hull, equipment, systems and hotel, and an exhaustive list of necessary repairs and upgrades.

BRM Maritime provides advisory services on ship recycling, from yard development projects to verification assessments of recycling yards for stakeholders and for Competent Party qualification.

Case: Assessment of recycling yards in China Customer: MAJOR ENERGY AND INVESTMENT CORPORATION The customer was looking into investing in ship recycling thus in need of an independent business risk assessment of a selection of recycling yards in China.

BRM Maritime visited the yards, had constructive discussions with the yard owners and benchmarked the recycling yard’s performance against IMO’s Hong Kong

convention of recycling ships and DNV recycling yard standards. DNV’s professional approach opened up for co-operation

with the recycling yard owners, giving the customer necessary investment decision support.
