The Bluemobile application suite for smart phones running the Microsoft OS is a software platform designed to support the operation of mobile outdoor working crews in maintenance, emergency response, security and similar operations in handling everyday or exceptional incidents. The mobile software application is loaded on mobile phones and portable computers and can be configured so that devices are organized in groups hierarchically, with one node set to have the role of the Control and Command Center (C3). The status of all devices is replicated and maintained centrally on a secure transparent server application.

People within the groups and up the command chain can then freely exchange messages while supervisors and the C3 can also assign tasks to individuals lower in the hierarchy. At the same time all active devices and their status are visible for the other members of the same group (and for the hierarchy) so that what everyone does is known and it is also displayed on a map on the smartphone.

Application Features Tracking.

Messaging.

Each smart phone device equipped with the Bluemobile software is continuously tracked through the GPS satellite network and the GPS chipset on the smart phone that is managed by the software application. The periodicity of the tracking notifications is configurable. Data record of the successive positions of all active devices is maintained on the server.

The application currently provides text messaging capability. Each user, field crew member, supervisor or C3 operator, can compose a text message and select to send it to one or more recipients. Message exchange can be encrypted if required, A log of all messages, time stamped is maintained for a posteriori analysis. Optionally, the application messaging mechanism can be configured to also support the exchange of attachments (still images, video or audio clips).

Task assignment.

Interfaces.

The C3 operator can initiate tasks/ work assignments targeting specific individuals, groups or sub-hierarchies. Work requests are queued and have a status (e.g. pending, in-progress, completed) with the names and number of status states configurable. Depending on the configuration, operators may or may not have a choice to accept or decline a task. All group members can see the tasks assigned and their status color-coded on their device.

The application software can be configured to receive and send status information to external system via ODBC, XML or using a web services interface (through the Bluemobile server).

The application displays on a map on the device its own position as well as the positions of the other active units in the same group (or hierarchy), as well as the position of each task assigned (if they can be geo-referenced).

The application has an intuitive graphic user interface, with its own icons and other visual elements that make it more friendly for users, being aneasy-to-learn & easy-to-use visual environment.
