project description | This project was commissioned for the City Council of Pittsburgh. Located in the heart of the city, this building includes new offices for the council members as well as a public auditorium. The goal of this design is to link the offices with the auditorium, public with private, government with the people. To do this, my partner and I created a large atrium which physically and symbolically links the different programs of the building while providing it with visually connective infrastructure. drawing description | Located directly across from the Pittsburgh City Hall, a public ground plane creates communication between the two buildings. The facade of the City Council Building is a system of perforated steel panels which alter their density depending on the privacy of the given program. The auditorium, located on the bottom floor, floating above the sidewalk level, is completely enclosed in glass.(Drawing by DC) 10

project description | The Stormking Art Center is a world renown sculptural park located just an hour outside of New York City. Consisting of more than 500 acres, this landscape holds more

than 100 large scale sculptures by artists ranging from Alexander Calder to Richard Serra. The Viewport Pavilion, an intervention immersed within the Mark di Suvero collection, seeks to further enhance the effect achieved when walking through and exploring this massive space.

project description | In filmmaking, the concept of spacial construction and comprehension is important to create a specific cinematic effect. This project explores these spacial concepts and translate them back into physical architecture. After extensive analysis on the film Citizen Kane, the Orson Welles Film Institute derives its motivation from the theme of montage, which Welles uses throughout to emphasize crucial events. Set on the canal in Venice, Italy, the building seeks to portray montage as a circulation path which continues to shift and reflect as one progresses through. 18

project description | Located on the Oswego Canal, which ultimately connects to the Erie Canal, the town of Phoenix, NY is a small town which suffered a loss in identity following the

Industrial Revolution (where it was prosperous) and a major fire in 1910. Now, an analogous relationship has developed between the ruins of industry and the block of commercial strip which creates a virtual edge, blocking any interaction between town, machine, and canal. The Phoenix Community College seeks to re-engage the waterfront, deriving language from the industrial mechanisms, and provides opportunity to establish connections, create interactions, and stimulate value.

design description | After the creation of the initial urban plan, the college was divided into 3 sections and given to 3 different designers. The section here consists of the library, the auditorium, and the bridge which links them together. The goal was to reflect the dual language of the commercial strip, which the library connects with, as well as the mechanical locks which sit around the canal, where the auditorium is located. The red, industrial “ribbon serves as a metaphoric as well as a physical connector, bleeding into each space and creating constant interaction between the very public bridge and more privatized interiors. 24

project description | This project is a film headquarters commissioned by Image, an architectural film company based in Florence. The site is located in the middle of a large piazza near Mercato Sant Ambrogio, La Nazione (the Florence newspaper), and the Florence Architecture School. The goal of this design is to choreograph urban space using a set of 3 screens to create a physical and digital network. 28

project description | The screens each deal with a particular moment within the piazza. The desire is to have them create a dialect with each other to create a virtual experience that film (specifically film in architecture) has to offer. The layering of walls, scaffolding and screens as well as the patterned landscape which threads them together reflects this. 30

project description | This was a model built at the firm of Carpenter & Macneille Architects. The goal of the project was to study and show the history and development of the former 1900s barn for trolley cars and generators which now houses C&M offices. With movable pieces ranging from the exterior landscape to the interior walls, one can see the transition and reuse of the building and how it transformed over time.
