Neighbourhoods and lifestyles need to be understood before complementary housing can be modelled. DJRD believe the early stages of master planning and brief development require rigorous anaylsis and review including pragmatic financial aspects. This is ‘Sustainability’ in the broadest and deepest sense; communities are supported by a responsive built environment that can grow and change with minimum waste and best use of resources. We rely consistently on a loosely defined (although deeply rooted) set of urban design principles relating to hierarchy, scale, grain, urban enclosure, connections and the value of the ‘everyday’, underpinned by an interest in the history and evolution of places.
