BIO Vibrant, driven, passionate and innovative are just a few qualities that illustrate 21 year old Dj Pelps. With a keen ear and an inclination of thinking outside the box, his style of mixing can be easily distinguished as opposed to the stereotypical sound of a DJ. Due to this heavily sought after attribute, he adapts appropriately to any event and is guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser. Born and raised in the cool parish of Mandeville, his love of mixing stemmed from an interest in drumming and from his father and brother, who are the musicians of the family. The interest became experimental at age 14 when he started using the popular DJ software, Virtual DJ. From this, his curiosity developed into a passion of the craft and was apparent as he delved into daily projects that involved creating short mixtapes for friends, playing at class parties and small social events around the community.
Since 2012, he has initiated a reputation for himself where mixtapes are concerned. Amongst the vibrant projects that were released was Yaadi Soca which was a mixtape with a strict compilation of dancehall soca done by Jamaican artistes and was hosted by Future World Family Promotions. The project was well received and can be found on a number of reputable sites that promote Jamaican music. Apart from compilations, he has also assisted artistes with their debut mixtapes. The first of which was 2008 Digicel’s Rising Stars winner, Brown Shuga, entitled “Shuga’s Complicated Love” which was released June 2012. Shortly after in August he collaborated with Kabaka Pyramid for the release of his self-titled mixtape. At the top of 2013, he collaborated with upcoming reggae artiste Mackeehan for his first mixtape.

Dj Pelps balances his time very well as he is currently a full-time third year art student at the Edna Manley College and the college’s official DJ. He is known on the campus as a “legend” and is highly respected by his colleagues and lecturers alike. Aside from the mixtapes, he has been regarded as a champion due to his participation in college based competitions such as Redbull Cellie Clash in which he won first place and the 2012 Ultimate College DJ Clash where he competed against DJs from other colleges and universities which he also reigned as number one. Forthcoming projects for 2013 include mixtapes for upcoming acts such as Solid agency artiste Ashani, Penthouse artiste Exco Levi and Cashflow Records first lady Nellie Roxx. Alongside these he will be periodically releasing a series of short mixtapes that focus on unique concepts. As he continues to locally impress his audience, he aspires to ascend to an international level of competence.
