Letting Agents and Property Managers Edinburgh & Glasgow
We specialise in the rental and management of high quality residential property
The ins and outs of successful letting There’s more to letting than just finding a tenant. At D.J.Alexander we know the letting business inside out, from the financial and maintenance practicalities to the ever-changing legalities to the often-present emotional dimension. We therefore provide a unique and complete a-z service from letting your tenant in to seeing your tenant out. On your behalf and on your instruction we manage lets to: blue chip companies, professional couples, single individuals, families, visiting academics and students.
What we do for our landlords We are proud to provide a comprehensive service for landlords resident here in the UK and all over the world. Our management service includes the following:
Finding the best tenant for your property Our reputation, brand recognition and exposure to the right networks mean we attract and source the most suitable candidates. We manage tenants at all levels, from CEOs to responsible students.
Thoroughly screening all candidates We meet, interview and assess all suitable candidates. We take references and carry out credit checks. Many years in the business means we have a nose for the right person or family for each property. Keeping abreast of ever-changing legislation means we can deal effectively with any new issues like multiple occupancy tenancies and tenancy deposit regulations.
Taking a condition schedule at the start of any tenancies Along with a full inventory we make a condition schedule at the start of each new tenancy. This helps to ensure everything is put back as it was and any damages are covered and paid for when a tenant moves out. We provide you with photographic evidence of your property’s condition at the beginning of any tenancy.
Dealing with routine matters and any issues during the tenancy This includes rent collection, any maintenance that is required, safety inspections and compliance issues and any unforeseen situations that may arise.
Complete control Most professional lets we manage average 2-3 years. For many landlords long-term letting is a cyclical business. Our management service keeps the whole process running smoothly, year in year out.
How we look after your property The diagram below displays the cycle involved in letting a property. Our minimum contract is six months but most professional lets that we manage average much longer. Occupancy levels stand at close to 100% depending on location and rental value. The average downtime between tenancies is often just a matter of a few days.
We have four departments that oversee the different aspects of letting your property. The Lettings department sees in tenants and the Checkout department sees them out. The Accounts department deals with rental collections and any trade work invoices. Property maintenance calls on a pool of skilled tradesmen to carry out any repairs and can also arrange property upgrades like installing a new bathroom or kitchen.
We collect initial payment then set up an ongoing payment mechanism – direct debit for private tenants and an invoicing system for corporate tenants.

Why you can count on us D.J. Alexander has been in the letting business since 1982. We were one of the very first letting agencies to set up in Edinburgh and took our expertise to Glasgow back in 1997. Over this time we have built up considerable brand recognition. The brand is synonymous with quality and excellent service. Landlords with desirable properties come to us, as do tenants and relocation agents seeking quality accommodation. Our clients can still come in to our office and meet the man with his name above the door. David Alexander still plays a very hands on role in the day to day running of the business and sets service and customer satisfaction at the top of the agenda. Staff are highly experienced and there is a very low staff turnover. This means not only will you get discreet and knowledgeable service, you’ll know who you are talking to year after year. We have also invested heavily in a bespoke property management software package to ensure maximum efficiency. Not surprisingly, over the years we have built up a lot of contacts with large employers in both Edinburgh and Glasgow and with their relocation agents.Today we are the main supplier to the corporate market and have more Blue Chip tenants than any other letting agency in Scotland. To attract prospective private tenants we advertise your property’s availability across a number of high-profile channels. By one route or the other we will find the most suitable tenant for your property. That’s our guarantee.
We understand the need for the customer to be completely confident and reassured their property is in safe, reliable hands. David Alexander Managing Director
Who our clients are. And who our tenants are. Our clients are landlords who own quality properties which they wish to rent to good, reliable tenants. The properties we manage range form family town houses to one bedroom flats, from suburban homes to penthouses in the city centre. A proportion of our clients are landlords resident in Scotland but we also act on behalf of many overseas clients. Having landlords all over the world means we have adapted our service to take distance and time differences into account. Our tenants range from UK or international executives being relocated to Edinburgh or Glasgow, visiting academics, students, and families or couples moving within these cities looking to up or downsize.
Operating in Edinburgh and Glasgow, we’ve been securing quality tenants for quality properties since 1982
Where we advertise In addition to advertising on our easy to use and much visited website we advertise our clients’ properties through the following high profile channels.
Why is our name so familiar? Authoritative comment from the company frequently appears in the national press, as do articles penned by David Alexander and members of his management team on the subject of residential lettings.
Where we operate We have smart, highly visible offices in central locations in Scotland’s two main cities, Edinburgh and Glasgow. We cover all postcodes within each city and its surrounding areas.
