Ten Tonnes

Between working with former Maccabee Hugo White and heading out on the road with Rat Boy, Ethan Barnett has spent the past year refining his recipe for deliciously boisterous indie pop and it’s paying off. Throw in the fact he just joined Stereophonics on their UK arena tour, and it’s clear he’s more than got the practice in. Luckily for us, he’ll be popping up on festival bills across this summer. BE THERE: Ten Tonnes plays Live at Leeds (5th May), The Great Escape (17th - 19th May), Wychwood (1st - 3rd June), Isle of Wight (21st - 24th June), Community (1st July), and 110 Above (3rd - 5th August).

Nilüfer Yanya

Whenyoung The London-via-Dublin trio may still only have a handful of infectious tracks out in the world right now, but, as they prep to head out on their inaugural festival run this year, it’s clear that there’s no holding them back. Drummer Andrew Flood chats boiler suit survival and stand-out fest moments. You’ve got quite a few festivals scheduled for this summer you excited about getting out there and playing them?!

Oh my god yes! So many coming up, can’t wait! We have never played a festival in the UK before so bring on the summer!

What sort of prep do you think will go into those sets? Do you reckon they’ll be a bit of a different beast to your regular shows?

Well, the main thing to think about is how hot will a boiler suit be in summer. I might have to cut the sleeves off. It’ll be a totally different approach to our normal shows; we’re definitely going to play around with set lists to maximise the outdoor

vibes!

What are some of your favourite festival experiences from being a punter?

We got to see Van Morrison last year at Primavera which was quite special. He sang all the hits through his gold microphone. Kate Tempest also blew us away that weekend. The Strokes at Hyde Park a couple years ago was a childhood dream come true!

If someone was to stumble into the room (or field) halfway through one of your sets, what would you hope they’d take away from it all by the time you’d finished? An uplifting sense of empowerment... And some fashion tips.

Across a handful of EPs and singles, Nilüfer Yanya has become one of the UK’s most effortlessly exciting new singer-songwriters. New tracks ‘Thanks 4 Nothing’ and ‘Baby Luv’ are her most enticing yet, and they’re brought to life in a live setting, which sees Nilüfer and band mould dreamy flourishes of horns and percussion around her intricate guitar licks. Selling out shows left, right and centre, she heads for this year’s festival season as a true one to watch. BE THERE: Nilüfer Yanya plays FORM (11th - 13th May), The Great Escape (17th - 19th May), Best Kept Secret (8th - 10th June), Siren’s Call (30th June), Bilbao BBK Live (12th - 14th July), Bestival (2nd - 5th August), Visions (4th August) and End of the Road (30th August - 2nd September).

Snail Mail

Releasing her debut full-length later this year, Snail Mail is really starting to power up. Debut EP ‘Habit’ was an enticing introduction, with lead track ‘Thinning’ showing Lindsey Jordan’s expertise in writing sad but rousing numbers, and packing in melody by the pound. Making her UK live debut back in January, it’s clear that power translates perfectly on stage, and with an album now in her back pocket, festival season is set to see her grow and grow. BE THERE: Snail Mail plays Coachella (13th - 15th April, 20th - 22nd April), Norman (26th - 28th April), Gold Sounds (19th - 20th May), Green Man (16th - 19th August), and End of the Road (30th August - 2nd September).
