Toastmaster Justin Diraviam CC CL President AKTM Dear Toastmasters, Another hectic term has come to an end with lot of contests in the club level and area level as well and all of us are aware of our club’s commendable performance. Hearty congratulations to all the winners and participants. It was truly heartening to see all the senior toastmasters taking a lead and contributing overwhelmingly to the club’s performance in every way possible; be it as participants or judges or as role players. As everybody acknowledges, the contests at the club level was beyond anyone’s expectation with high quality content, delivery and greater participation. In spite of all these excellent advantages, our club’s performance at the higher levels of contests, I feel, is of great concern and we need to ponder over. We haven’t achieved much in the division level contests for quite some time. Can’t we aspire and aim for higher goals as we have now many vibrant and eloquent speaker-members in our club? There are two areas that we need to concentrate on. Firstly, the new members who have joined this forum with lots of hopes, dreams and aspiration but have lost sight of their zeal and target need to be awakened from their laid back attitude. Mere big number in membership does not reflect the strength of the club. Every one of us apart from the mentors has a great responsibility in our club to concentrate on this area to strengthen our club with quality and credibility. Secondly, our club with all its members needs a strong exposure to other main clubs in Doha. There are lot of interaction and exchange of expertise, ideas and resources among many Doha clubs which we indeed miss. In this line, the Excom has planned to have joint meetings with some Doha clubs in the near future which would

definitely enhance our club’s persistent strive for excellence in communication and leadership. I request every member, new and experienced, to ponder over these few lines and see what we can do collectively for our club. As we are approaching the TAC-Q 2014, I would like to wish every participant in the division specially MTM Tripti Jain and TM Kishor Awale from our club the very best. Let Your Light Shine

Greetings from AKTM

The 3

rd

issue of LECTOR for the session 2013-2014 is in your hand. The past quarter of AKTM had been very

busy time for all of us, the most important event of the quarter was the contest. AKTM members participated wholeheartedly and with lot of interest in the contest. The detailed results of the club contest and area contest is available seperately in this issue. We have selected the theme “say it with flowers”. Although it doesn’t have the link with the British musical film which was released in 1934, the idea is that one should speak using the beautiful words like flowers, the words should be aromatic with the smell of flowers and spread soft colors, reach speaker’s message to the hearts of the audience. We were privileged to have many guests during our last quarter in our meetings; all were welcomed by the members and AKTM Excom with a floral smile. The guests liked our club very much and they were impressed by the quality of the meetings. Many of them showed their interest to join the club. The idea behind inviting the guests is to develop the awareness and to spread the good work of toastmaster program in the community and to familiarize them with the format of our meetings. From the day one they feel to be part of club as they find a very friendly atmosphere with everyone cheering them. In Toastmasters we learn different aspects of the speech including voice modulation, gesture, body language, and rhetoric use of the words, while practising, listening and interacting with each other. This issue is decorated with your excellent articles, thanks to MTM Tripiti Jain, TM Sundar for their articles in this newsletter, special thanks to all AKTM members and Excom for sharing the ideas and support to publish the LECTOR on time.

AKTM organizes colourful dhow trip An exciting and full-of-fun dhow trip was organized by the excom of AKTM, for the families and members of Alkhor Toast Masters Club on 5TH April, 2014. “We have to make something different” This was the call of the committee when they met to plan for the family get to gather and many ideas were shared. After a big wah, the dhow trip was agreed upon . All families reached at the meeting point at 4:30 PM, kids were very excited for the trip, as most of them hadn’t traveled earlier by boat. The trip started with the safety note by TM Kishore, next in the row TM Justin addressed the travelers and shared the wonderful experience of AlKhor Toast Masters Club and how the members are benefitted by the Toastmasters program. He thanked the families for being part of the club with their direct or indirect involvement and support to the club. Toastmaster Kumaravel as usual entertained the group with his innovative quiz for children and families, he called the kids to say a few words in front of the audience and distributed attractive prizes.

Toastmaster Shabbir entertained the group by his humour with the title “safety”. He told the group that THEY have traveled by air, by road but this is the 3rd type of travel which is ON water. There is no safety rules here unlike we all have on road or air travel. He ensured the group that the boat will remain safe because of the onboard people, as all were good people. He thanked the excom that they saved all of us by not inviting the “bad” people. The bad character is a symbolic character which is very popular in toastmasters, any of the person who force his influence or be BOSSY to the life of the people is a bad character. Snack and cold drinks were offered throughout the trip, many light memories and jokes were shared between the group. Shashidar and his brother Prahantram entertained the group with his instrumental music, Saniya Kishore sung a sweet song and collected lots of encouraging words by everyone. Ramesh will be leaving for his better prospects. TM Justin & Mohan gave the farewell remarks to him they mentioned the role of TM Ramesh Marakala for his contribution to the club. A memento was presented to him as a token of appreciation. The boat reached alsafliya island, all families disembarked from the boat and had photography session, they reembarked after 15 minutes and the return trip started. Dinner was served to all upon reaching at corniche. All of the families returned back with great memories of the trip and thanked the excom for arranging such a wonderful visit.
