A final MESSAGE FROM

Tommy Dang

2013-14 lt. governor

Hello and Goodbye Otters, This is our last newsletter for the 2013-2014 term. I want to thank News Editor Michelle Nguyen for her hard work and dedication the entire term in making these beautiful Newsletters every month. The job of a news editor can be very challenging and stressful but Michelle has been very successful so when you see her, thank her for her service to the division! Although this is our last news letter this is not a good bye but I farewell till next time! I have been honored to serve such an amazing and beautiful division. You all have contributed to this success though. All of our clubs grew in membership, spirit, service, love and unity. You cheered your way to top 3 at Fall Rally. You served over 16,000 hours as a division, and so much more! You have changed the division to make it the best it has been in awhile. You otters have created a legacy for 4 North! These accomplishments are much to be proud of. I know next year will bring a lot for our division and each of you individually. You all deserve the best. Thank you for all you do otters. Remember to always continue to serve and show your care for others everyday as we end this term. Remember you can always contact me thorough email, texts, facebook, or anything at all if you ever need anything. I am never too busy for you all because I care so much about you. I can't wait to see you all at District Convention in Sacramento! Stay Forever Golden Division 04 North! Love,

beach clean up BY Natalie Bui from Rancho Alamitos high school On Saturday, Rancho Alamitos Key Club had a small 30-minute beach cleanup at Huntington Beach. At first, there were only a few of us waiting at the pier for the rest of the group, but eventually everyone arrived. To make the event a little more interesting, we held a contest to see who can take the most pictures with strangers while we cleaned up. After 30 minutes of hard work, everyone gathered beneath the pier to take a group photo and individual ones. Although the event was short and simple, it was really fun because the location wasn’t too far and it was a nice place to hang out after it was over. It also taught me that you don’t need a big event to volunteer at, and that you could make a big difference with something small.

k-kids field trip BY jenny nguyen from bolsa grande high school This year, Bolsa Grande Key Club had its newest addition to its Kiwanis family! Our president Rachael Yi began K-Kids at nearby Cook Elementary. For a couple of months now, we've been having services with our K-Kids every Friday, and Peter Nguyen is the liaison between the two clubs. Although he doubts his abilities to lead a bunch of fifth and sixth graders, I have absolute faith in him. In fact, he has had many successful events with K-Kids. On Friday, January 24th, K-Kids came to my school to cook mummy hot dogs with Key Club and Cooking Club. I walked in to check up on them, and they seemed as if they had a lot of fun! I especially noticed Thien

Pham connecting with the K-Kids members by letting them cook too. I hope that this event becomes a monthly service because I hope to be a part of it too!

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AND REFLECTION ON CONCLAVE/DCM

by wayne nguyen from pacifica HIGH SCHOOL As a candidate for conclave it was a very nerve racking experience to wait outside until my name was called. Most of the time I would be talking to the other Region 3 candidates wondering who would be the ones to become an elect. Luckily for me, one of the people who watched over us was a person that I knew well. He helped me prepare for my speech and reassured me that I was going to do well. When they finally called my name I slowly walked in and looked at the large crowd, hoping that the delegates in front would give me that important vote. I presented my speech and it was one of the best feelings ever, having everyone laugh and cheer for me gave me the genuine urge to smile. I made it into the second round and I was excited; I was one step closer to the greatest achievement I would ever have. Once again I waited outside until I was called in for my second caucus. When I was being questioned I felt panicked and extra nervous, all I could do was try my

best and hope they liked me. When everyone was done presenting all the candidates that were left went in and this was when the results would be known. I kept praying that Tommy Dang would call my name and everyone would be congratulating me, however, this did not happen. I lost the chance of being an elect and representing Division 4 North. I did not know how I felt at the time since there were so many pros and cons to both. I escaped the enormous workload, but I lost the chance to impact the division. I was able to finally relax, but all the time and effort I put in went to waste. Looking back on it now, it was a very fun experience for me. I got the satisfaction of making a large crowd laugh and moving them with my speech. It may have been loss but my key club journey does not end there. I still have my home club to take care of and hopefully I have inspired a few out there face what I have.
