Mes Hello everyone! Can you believe it? We're all already halfway through the Key Club term. I'm hoping that those of you who were able to attend RTC and FRN this year had an amazing time, but now it's time to think about working for the bigger things ahead -- like DCON 2014! As members of the California-Nevada-Hawaii District, we all want to help contribute to our goal of earning $150,000 for the Pediatric Trauma Prevention Program and one million service hours as well as continuing to raise money for the Eliminate Project to save lives from maternal/neonatal tetanus. Although all of us will be busy with various duties, it's important that we don't lose sight of our goals -- so what can we do to help? As always, keep thinking of new, bigger ways to organize fundraising and service events. Keep reaching out to your communities. Keep in contact with your Kiwanis to see if there are any ways you can work with them to achieve our goals. Although the term is halfway over, we still have more than enough time to do as much as we can! The most important thing you can do is to keep trying. If anything, the Division Leadership Team and I are always here to assist you in whatever way we can! After all, we are here to serve you. With that, I hope you are all doing wonderfully well -- and remember, KEEP FIGHTING! With the fighting spirit of service, Allysa Foot Division 12 West Lieutenant Governor Have any questions, comments, or anything else that you would like to tell Allysa? PAST EVENTS Region 9-15-17 Training Conference: Stars of Service From Saturday, September 28th to Sunday, September 29th, Regions 9, 15, and 17 gathered at Camp Jones Gulch for Region Training Conference 2013: Stars of Service! A weekend filled with workshops, Keynote speakers, DCMs, and a campfire - everyone had the opportunity to meet new people while becoming better leaders to serve their communities. At this year’s RTC, members walked the “red carpet” and performed live skits with their groups at the campfire. The groups ranged from Action, Comedy, Sci-Fi, Horror, Drama, Western, Romance, Foreign, Fantasy, Musical, and of course, Family (the amazing advisors!), and each GOLDEN group created a skit to demonstrate an important aspect of Key Club, such as its Major Emphasis and Key Club Week. As groups rotated through the round robin workshops, members gained useful information and advice on better leadership skills to share with their home clubs, and despite not having any cellular service, members learned more about the value and importance of community service! In the evening, Key Clubbers danced the night away or went to the alternative activities to spend time with their friends. On the last day, the lieutenant governors presented a slideshow filled with pictures and videos from the weekend, hosted their September DCMs, and led the members through various icebreakers and games before closing session when they officially adjourned RTC 2013. Region Training Conference 2013 surely brought out the “star of service” in every GOLDEN member who attended; however, this weekend would not have been possible without the dedication and effort put in by the Region 9-15-17 Lieutenant Governors, region advisors, and all other advisors who came!

Farewell to FRN

Reflections

Fall Rally North is one of my all-time favorite Key Club events. When I first entered the park, the atmosphere was already intense. There were so many spirited divisions practicing cheers and fixing their gear, and it was amazing. When we entered the rally, there were masses of Key Clubbers cheering loudly, and I just couldn’t help but to join the spirit. Although we did not win the rally, I believe 12 West did an awesome job of keeping their spirits up and fighting. After the rally, we went on rides, got free drinks, and saw animals everywhere in the park. However, the best thing about Fall Rally North was the spirit battles! Divisions were loudly cheering at one another, having fun, then hugging afterwards; even our division got into a spirit battle! Overall, FRN was fantastic, and it makes me sad that I’m a senior and won’t be able to attend next year’s FRN. -Alex Tran, Santa Clara

CLUB REPORTS DEL MAR On October 11th, Key Club members volunteered at Monroe Middle School’s Carnival. We volunteered in each booth to help serve food out. On October 15th, we held out 6th Key Club meeting , and we talked about FRN and other volunteer opportunities. Also, the Key Club board members created a suggestion box to hear what each individual member is thinking about our club and to get suggestions about improving our club. Every Tuesdays and Fridays during an open plus period, Key Club members volunteered to go around classrooms to collect items to recycling. This coming October 18th is our high school’s rally and during lunchtime, Key Club is going to join the food fair to volunteer and help raise money.

LEIGH Leigh’s club fair was held on October 2nd. Like always, many new members signed up for Key Cub and asked about what Key Club is. Board members tried to describe the purpose of Key Club. The club fair was extremely crowded and noisy, so we encouraged others to come out to our first meeting, which was held on October 9. Our room became extremely crowded as many new members as well as old members came to the first meeting. We attempted to play an ice-breaker in order to make new members feel welcomed and comfortable, but many were too timid to join the game. I hope more and more members join and learn more about what Key Club really is. - Christine Oh, Secretary

HARKER This month we participated in our school's annual club fair and had 252 sign ups. So far we have had two meetings and had two community service events (dog toys + love letters , first-aid kits). We couldn't go to RTC due to logistical reasons but we plan on attending FRN. - Austin Lai, Secretary

WESTMONT On Saturday, October 12th at the Home Church in Campbell, Westmont Key Club hosted another car wash! Members washed, soaped, and rinsed cars and attracted potential customers by holding posters and cheering! Overall, we raised a total of $325.00 with the money going toward future events and Pediatric Trauma Prevention! In addition, throughout the month, Key Club promoted UNICEF boxes, distributing them throughout the school in classrooms and even creating a video advertisement to encourage other students to donate. - Claudia Lim, News Editor

Message from the

DNE

Hello Spartans! Happy November! What are you all thankful for this month? I am thankful for my loving family and friends, the home I live in, and of course, Key Club along with all of you GOLDEN members who are the reason that I am so dedicated to serve this division and make these newsletters every month! Remember to thank those around you and show your appreciation this month, and I challenge you all to do at least one good deed each day of the month since November is the time of giving! :) I hope that you all had an AMAZING time at Fall Rally North! Together, all of the divisions raised more than thousands of dollars for PTP, and that is absolutely fantastic! Even though FRN is over, you should all continue to fundraise for PTP! CNH’s goal this year is to raise $150,000, and this is something that we as a district will and can achieve! Thank you all for reading the November issue, and remember to submit articles and visuals by the 15th by 6:00pm for your club to be featured in next month’s newsletter! Allysa and the Division Leadership Team would love to hear everything about what your club has been doing, so encourage your members to submit articles! Until then, I look forward to seeing all you lovely Spartans soon! In Service, Christine Vo Westmont Key Club Vice-President Division 12 West News Editor
