HHCC score convincing win over Telkom

Helderberg Cricket Club are flying high Helderberg Cricket Club are flying high at the moment and currently top the Western Province Cricket Association’s (WPCA)1 C two -day league and are on course for promotion to the 1 B league. This is a truly outstanding achievement, as the club were only promoted to this league last season. If Helderberg do go on to win the league this season it will be their third league win in a row. It is extremely tough to win a league, especially when it’s your first season in that specific league, but to do so for three seasons in succession is a fantastic achievement. It wasn’t that long ago (2007/2008 season) when Helderberg, Somerset West and Hottentots Holland clubs all finished in the top five places of the WPCA 1C league. After that things

went downhill for all three clubs and their first team. It is a vastly experienced team. they dropped down a few leagues. Hottentots Holland Cricket Club’s (HHCC) first team beat Telkom by eight wickets in their two-day away match played on Saturday. Telkom batted first on day one and scored 99 to which HHCC replied with 118. Telkom continued their second innings on 52/5 and were bowled out for 84 runs leaving the visitors 66 runs needed for victory. The best bowlers for HHCC in the second innings were Yaseen Jakoet 15-4-39, Edwin Daniels 14-428 and Rafeeq Baderoen 4-2-8. The best batsmen for HHCC were Ruben Matthews 25* and Hishaam Slamdien 14. HHCC Assassins (second team) beat Old Mutual by 101 runs. HHCC batted first and scored 170/3. At one stage they were 12/2

but a great partnership of 150 runs between Ebrahim Pedro 65* and Winston Thomas 75 saw HHCC posting a match-winning score. Old Mutual were bowled out for 69 and Assassins won the match by 101 runs. The best bowlers for the Assassins were Fahdil Crombie 7-4-20 and Ebrahim Pedro 7-2-15. HHCC Strikers played Bellville at home and won the match by five wickets. Bellville batted first and scored 98. The best bowlers for HHCC were Waqar Josephs 7-4-26 and Abubakr Rhoda 4-2-13. The top batsmen were Waqar Josephs 25 and Abubakr Rhoda 29*. On Saturday 2 March the HHCC first team play Kensington at home while the Assassins play Rondebosch and the Strikers St Augustines, both away.
