whites with Nestor Santa-Cruz Selecting gifts can prove tiring for some, or tremendously enjoyable for others. As an interior designer, I often have to like it even more than the person receiving it. It comes down to “reference and themes,” and I use a certain design discipline to achieve gift giving success. In the end, what makes the process worth it for me is the anticipation of the joy it will bring to my friends and family; each time I select a gift, I see myself creating another design story.

Giving gifts to ourselves is a luxury; however, buying for the home can become a very personal dilemma. I decided to go virtual shopping around the District and generate for myself an imaginary “home vignette” with the coveted finds. In these searches, I always look for the unexpected, and the “theme” becomes the key. Red, green, silver and gold are the classic tones of the season. But having spent a week in early November in Madrid, I found the city unexpectedly warm and full of light—it was so inspiring. The theme was found, and I decided to base all of my selections on winter whites. Here are my most coveted decor pieces for the vignette I wish to propose. From light grey to ivory and off-whites, to stark gesso-white and textured creams and beyond, these pieces bring a little luminous warmth inside for the cold winter holidays. Be inspired…
