GET YOUR PADDLE ON Is there anything more refreshing than getting out on the water on a hot day? We tend to think not. Thrillseekers can try their hand at flyboarding or hoverboarding with Flyboard PEI for an airborne experience over the water. For the seafarers at heart, you’ll love the chance to get up close and personal to the Charlottetown harbour with kayak and stand-up paddle-board rentals at Paddles. WALK IT OUT Much of the city’s waterfront is now linked by a series of boardwalks that provide the best vistas of the harbour and stunning cityscapes as well. You’ll find each season has something special to showcase on the harbourfront. Sunset strolls on the boardwalk are highly recommended, along with a stop at the BIG RED 2020 numbers that you’ll encounter as you skirt around the Delta Hotel at the bottom of Queen St. ROCK THE BOAT If cruising the harbour by boat sounds like bliss, you’re in luck. There are plenty of tours departing from Peake’s Wharf and the Charlottetown Marina, including a solar eco-tour with Ride Solar, a land-and-sea tour of the city aboard the amphibious Harbour Hippo, seal watching with Adventure Marine or Peake’s Wharf Tours, or a lobster fishing excursion with Top Notch Tours. EAT & DRINK ON THE WATER There’s nothing quite like waterside dining to remind you of life’s simple pleasures. A warm sea breeze is the perfect accompaniment to a feast of fresh seafood and other culinary delights from the land and waters of PEI. There are plenty of dining options along the Charlottetown waterfront, including Salt & Sol, Nimrods’, Peake’s Quay Restaurant, Brakish!, Lobster on the Wharf, and The Cork & Cast. Or you can always pack a picnic and make your way to a favourite waterside vista. HIT THE BEACH And if all of that wasn’t enough, you’re never more than twenty minutes from a beach on PEI, several within an easy drive from Charlottetown. From national and provincial park beaches with amenities, to those with barely any road signs that direct you to their location, your perfect beach day is just minutes away. During a visit to this quaint coastal city, you’re rarely more than a short walk from the water. At some point, you’ll inevitably find yourself drawn to the historic waterfront where there’s always plenty to see and do. Yet there’s no rush to do any of it. Perhaps it’s the lulling qualities of the ocean or the gentle reminder from the salty breeze— whatever it is, the peaceful nature is an Island quality to be cherished. There are many ways to embrace these coastal vibes, choose the ones that suit your style.
