better than most. She believes that her psychic abilities peak immediately after an abduction, and fall back to their normal levels shortly thereafter. She even suspects that this might be one of the main reasons behind her experiences, serving per­ haps to recharge her psychic powers in some way. Tom agrees. He feels that Jayne was "upgraded" during her en­ counters. This hypothesis seems to have been confirmed during one of the two hypnotic regression sessions that Jayne has undergone. (Again, it is important to stress that most of the information in this case was consciously re­ called: hypnosis was only used in order to confirm the basic facts, and provide some additional details.) Jayne was in fact quite reticent under hypnosis, but replied to a question about why she had been abducted that it was because of her psy­ chic abilities. She also predicted that open contact would be made in the next few years, with landings in several different locations worldwide. (Such claims are fairly common among abductees, and may stem more from hope than from any firm information; open contact with intelligent extra­ terrestrials may result in the abductees' stories finally being believed.) Jayne's encounters seem to have settled down to a regular pattern of approximately two each year; but that may be a conservative estimate, since she feels that she shuts out much of what is happening to her. She becomes upset and emotional, but does not appear to have suffered any physical harm, so the situation is one that she toler­ ates. Jayne views the experiences with mixed feelings, seeing both negative and positive sides to her encounters. She believes that the individual's reaction to the phe­ nomenon is the crucial factor.
