On a more up beat note we are getting ever closer to Christmas with only a matter of weeks to the big day. Lots to do in November as most high streets will have their annual lights switch on and Santa comes out of his hibernation in anticipation of greeting all those lucky children and finding out what they wish for this Christmas. Again i wish this Brexit lark would end and i can start to talk about something more interesting like the new Star Wars movie coming out in December as i am a massive geek when it comes to the light and the dark side of the force. Until next month then... May the force be with you! Disclaimer

Rain, rain, go away, muddy feet have come to play! Whether you have children or pets, the recent rain we’ve been having has meant more mud than ever is being tracked into the home. Muddy footprints - or paw prints - can really destroy the look of your carpets, so let’s see how you can encourage the kids (or the pooch) to get outside and jump in muddy puddles without sacrificing your carpet for their fun.

Bide Your Time Everywhere you look, from Mrs. Hinch, to carpet cleaning websites, you’re told to start cleaning a stain before it starts sinking into the fibres. We’re saying the best thing to do is wait. Make a coffee. Bide your time and let that muddy stain dry out. You want the mud to harden, then when it does you can use a dry scrubber to loosen the dirt and then go over it with the vacuum. Go slowly, though, you don’t want to make it worse! Any discolouration left behind can be cleaned away with warm water and a little soap. Dab the area with a sponge until the stain has faded and let it dry. Don’t be afraid to jump up and down in the muddy puddles; the carpet can always be cleaned! While our tips will get out the worst of the mud, you are always best advised to get in a professional to sanitise the carpets. it is always good practice to get your carpets cleaned on a regular basis to ensure any hidden stains don’t make their way to surface and become a permanent feature! We offer very competitive rates on cleaning, we tailor your cleaning to the requirements of your carpet and we can protect your carpet with an Advanced Carpet Protector to protect your carpet against future stains. Equity Release Myth Busters Here is our guide to bust some of those myths about releasing equity and provide you with some facts:

With a lifetime mortgage, the most popular method of releasing equity from your home, you will not have to sell any part of it to anyone. The lender will release the funds once a charge is secured on your home, the same as a normal residential mortgage you may have had previously, and you are entitled to carry on living in your home for the rest of your life.

“I cannot leave an inheritance for my family” False

“I will leave a debt for my loved ones if I go ahead with equity release” - False

Equity release will reduce the value of your estate it will not prevent you from leaving an inheritance for your loved ones. You can even opt for a guaranteed percentage your home value to be left to your beneficiaries.

This is not the case. Equity release plans now come with a “no negative equity guarantee”. This means you or your estate will never be asked to repay more than the value of your property, even if the amount owed is greater. We will not recommend a plan to you that does not offer such protection.

“If I release equity from my home now I will not be able to move in future” - False Equity release lenders will allow you to move your loan from one property to another. However, it should be noted that there are certain instances when it may not be possible to transfer your loan from one home to the next. The lenders have strict property criteria so you will need to check with your lender to make sure your new home can act as acceptable security. “I will have to hand over my deeds and will not own my own home any-more” - False

“Equity release is not for everyone” - True Equity release may well not be the right option for you at this time, we understand that everyone is different. Our job is to make sure you know everything you need to, before making any decisions. Rest assured, if we do not think it is the right choice for you, we will say so. You can therefore make informed decisions.

A Lifetime Mortgage could help you in retirement We’ll provide the canvas... ...Paint the future you deserve Contact us for qualifed and impartial advice

Call us on 0800 2545169 or find us at www.laterlife-lending.co.uk This is a lifetime mortgage. To understand the features and risks please ask for a personalised illustration. Our typical advice fee would be £600. A lifetime mortgage may impact your entitlement to means tested benefits and the inheritance you may leave.

Your Garden In November The garden begins to wind down in November as deciduous plants enter dormancy. leaves are falling rapidly and wind and rain are on the increase.

Tie in all the plants and secure structures an important winter job is to stake tall plants, climbers and young trees to protect against strong winds. check that existing ties are not cutting into stems of plants that have grown over the summer. Structures such as arches, pergolas and fences should also be checked and ideally treated with preservatives. If repaired now there is less potential damage in high winds.

Whilst most of nature is hibernating in the colder months, winter is the ideal time to get new trees into the ground. trees are best planted in the late autumn when the soil is still warm but not too dry, giving roots time to acclimatise before the harsher temperatures of winter arrives. whatever your plan to do outside in Nonmember, take time to enjoy the LOOKING GOOD THIS MONTH...TREES garden as it fades, leaving structural plants and Why should you plant them? evergreens to take centre stage.

the weather is turning so its time to get those plants protected - frost can do serious damage to tender plants. frost tender plants in pots should be moved to the greenhouse, conservatory or porch. Exotic plants such as palms or tree ferns should be wrapped up for the winter with frost protection material.

Trees add structure to gardens and landscapes. As well as being used as a focal point for the garden they also make good hedges and screens. they come in a huge number of varieties, shades and position. Whilst most trees are grown for there foliage or flower, some are praised for their bark and branch shapes. Some trees look fantastic in spring while full of flower and other burst into vibrant colour in the autumn.

LIFT AND STORE CORMS AND TUBERS

How should you plant them?

Lift and store plants such as dahlias and tuberous bedding begonias that have been hit by bad weather. store in a dry, frost-free dark place ideally in a layer of sawdust. check occasionally over winter to ensure they are dry and rot free. remove any that look suspicious to prevent the risk of further infection.

Young trees should be staked diagonally. This protects them from strong winds and ensures the roots do not get damaged. Most varieties of trees will have specific planting instructions. There is a tree that will thrive in all soil types from wet soil to poor dry land and everything in between.
