Dippermouth makes bold, accessible theatre. ‘Bold’ because our work is innovative, stimulating and driven by creative challenges. ‘Accessible’ because it is outward-facing and engaging: to audiences old and new, to theatre practitioners, and to the communities in which we stage work. In our debut season, we’ve staged four compelling productions at theatres across London, and pioneered Free First Night performances for secondary schools.

Not About Heroes by STEPHEN MACDONALD

Dippermouth in Croydon

June, 1917. War rages across Europe. Millions of soldiers brave indescribable conditions. In a hospital ward in Edinburgh, two men meet who will one day give these soldiers a voice. Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon forged the most influential friendship of the First World War. Not About Heroes is their unforgettable true story. Audiences called Dippermouth’s production ‘compelling’, ‘thought provoking and entertaining’, ‘beautifully staged’ and ‘a triumph’. Students were especially captivated by MacDonald’s memory play, including at our highly successful Free First Night.

At Dippermouth, we’re passionate about making theatre accessible. Filling the gap left by the demolition of the Warehouse Theatre, our work at Matthews Yard aims at continuing Croydon’s rich and important theatrical heritage. With tickets priced at just £10, and Free First Night performances for schools, we’re making high-quality theatre local and affordable.

Scrooge & Marley by CHARLES DICKENS

Adapted by GEORGE FOURACRES & JAMES SWANTON

Scrooge & Marley is Charles Dickens’ masterpiece, A Christmas Carol — but as you’ve never seen it before. Over twenty of Dickens’ best-loved characters are brought to life by two spectacular actors. Scrooge is settling in for another lonely Christmas — just the way he likes them. He hates turkey, despises presents, and he certainly doesn’t want any visitors. And Marley? Oh, Marley was dead. To begin with... Dippermouth’s production of this ‘delightful twohander’ (Parikiaki) played for three weeks on the South Bank. Audiences of all ages were delighted by our strikingly inventive, exuberant retelling of a much-loved Christmas classic.

Bombshells by JOANNA MURRAY-SMITH

Ellie Nunn stars in Bombshells: a hilarious six-woman show for one. Joanna Murray-Smith’s unforgettable character monologues, ‘as observant as anything in Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads’ (The Guardian), are distinctive and rare gems of modern drama. Dippermouth’s revival was the first in the West End since the original sell-out production a decade ago. Music, dance and a host of surprises ensured that Ellie Nunn’s ‘standing ovation was well-deserved’ (A Younger Theatre). The show was lauded by critics and audiences alike.
