Our potential to be a community church, in every sense of the word, has been greatly increased and we are now able to embark on new projects to reach out into that community, particularly a weekly cafÊ for the elderly and the lonely that will be starting in the New Year, under the Anna Chaplaincy umbrella. Schools Cathedral Day 2019: Fellow Pilgrims

Please pray for the 900 year 6 pupils from Church of England primary schools from around the Diocese, who will gather together at the Cathedral on the 5th, 6th and 7th of November for the annual Cathedral Schools days. We pray that through the activities, prayer carousels and act of worship all will experience more of the love of God. We also pray for protection during the day and for safety for those travelling to and from the Cathedral. Clergy: Chris Key Our continuing moves from having several staff members to none! Our volunteers are on a steep learning-curve and needing to move the office to another room too. Our out-reach through Cafe and Tots, Forefront Youth, and Sixties Plus each week, and monthly Company for those with learning difficulties, and events with the townwide Waypoint Project. Our discernment of a new vicar, following the retirement of Chris Key in February 2020, and strength for all those taking on extra tasks in the vacancy. Please pray for them, and for all the work we are doing in the Deanery, ecumenically, and in the community: • Elizabeth Bryson is the first Anna Chaplain commissioned in the diocese, supporting and delivering ministry to the elderly. • Schools links are being strengthened and developed, potentially reaching whole families. • Music is a means of service and nurture. • Meeting Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, we want to grow spiritually and see others experience a life-changing encounter with Him. Diocesan Synod

Please pray for us as we consider ‘Ministerial Wellbeing’ at Diocesan Synod today. We already have the recent General Synod report on Clergy Health and Wellbeing which was discussed in July this year but our meeting today will look to widen this to both lay and ordained leadership. As we seek to support all ministerial leadership pray that we can discern what is already working well and what more can be done. Please also pray for unanimity as we look to set our diocesan budget for 2020 with consequent implications for Parish Share. It has population of 6000 which is double the size of our existing community and has the highest density of single parent families in the UK. Please pray for me Phil Goodey as I prepare to take on this responsibility and also Canon Arthur Houston as he retires. Please also pray for our existing congregations at St Peters and our Fresh Expression, Junction. That they may continue to thrive and in the power of the Spirit, the Kingdom of God would grow in Boughton Monchelsea and Parkwood. One aspect to emerge so far is to use social events as opportunities to offer prayer for those outside the church. One initiative - ‘Prayer on the Square’ (in Lenham) - has seen people pouring out deep needs, grateful that somebody would care and pray. We also need to up our game with young folk and families - please pray for wisdom for the right way forward. Pray for Bishop Rose, that she will know a deep sense of God’s calling and equipping for the task ahead. Pray that the event will brim over with joy and hope as we set out on this new chapter of our life as a diocese.
