Hello Cupcake held their Grand Opening to a massive crowd of locals enjoying sweet palate pleasures. This is a new concept of cupcakes and baked creations by Ms. Star and it is a big hit! Located on Northwood Road this new concept is where you can have specialty Cupcakes, Cakes, Cookies and other sweets made for your parties and events. Locals have discovered it's the place to stop in for an afternoon sweet tooth see page 7 for all the info and photos from the big Grand Opening party! Entre Nous has announced a new Tuesday thru Thursday dining deal that is fantastic! Stop in at any time and when you buy 1 entree and any starter you’ll get the second entree at half-price! This great restaurant owned by Chef Jason L. and Candie Shreve also has the most active upscale bar in the Northlake area with all kinds of drink specials and a classy setting. There are also several very private booths and tables perfect for a romantic dinner or business meeting. See page 15 for info! The Tulipan Family Bakery has gotten several top reviews from local daily newspapers for the job they did at their new location on Belvedere Road. As expected by those of us who have been to Tulipan, food critics were stunned by the outstanding fresh pastries, breads, cakes and the lunch items. This is a family operation, they take great pride in every serving of everything they create! If you have a birthday or event coming up and want to arrive with a truly phenomenal cake or tray of pastries - call or visit either Tulipan location - Northlake Blvd. or Belvedere Road - see page 15 for info. Bogey’s Nest was doing big business until the A/C went out last week. We’re hoping it is fixed by the time you read this! In the meantime owner Raquel Zepeda has created a spectacular waterfront deck area in the back with covered seating and great views of “serenity now.” New wines are coming in every day and this promises to become a hot-spot for wine lovers to relax and enjoy life - see page 15 and call for info! I got 9 phone calls about last month's Jan & Al Feinstein at ENTRE NOUS cover featuring the Carving Station. Diners were stunned by the value of this restaurant. Prime Rib and a complete buffet for only $9.39? Seniors can enjoy it for only $8.39! This is “worth a 45-minute drive” said one caller. Another said “I never expected so many wonderful items on one buffet for that price, the selection is pleasantly overwhelming.” A friend from Riviera Beach told me the “Fried Shrimp Fridays” are a “gift from heaven and my family will be visiting every week.” The Carving Station is the undisputed king of buffets in this county - see page two and try it as soon as you are hungry! Fresh Catch Seafood is still offering the best Crabcake dinner in town - at the best price - only $9.99 including two sides! They also have a 10-Shrimp dinner with two sides for only $9.99! I stopped by last week and the Fresh Blue Crabs were just arriving - with a line of people to snap them up! Fresh Catch has the best fresh Blue Crabs in town - you can have them steamed on request, along with many other fresh seafood items - see page 6 and make a call - they are now open on Sundays from 12-5 for your family dinner! Jade staff and ownership are taking a well deserved vacation from August 2 to August 26th, re-opening on the 26th. Call for reservations on re-opening weekend which will be a celebration of fine food and being tanned, rested & ready for another great year - see page 6 for info!
MONTHLY MUSIC SCENE
Doug Flutie is a football hero who threw a memorable Hail Mary pass back in 1984, giving Boston College a win over the Hurricanes and, who went on to become an accomplished NFL quarterback as well. He is also a hero in the world of autism. Doug and brother Darren started a foundation after Doug’s son was born with the developmental disorder. The Doug Flutie Foundation for Autism is partially funded by the Flutie Brothers Band, email@example.com originally formed as a hobby, now benefiting autistic children. Doug plays the drums the way he throws a football to a wide receiver, with harmonic class. Brother Darren plays guitar and both come by the music gene naturally. Dad Flutie was a big band leader and band practice in the living room was as normal as throwing a football in the front yard. Boston’s in Delray was the scene in June as this memorable group played a solid two hour gig. Doug’s brother Darren, unable to be there was missed, though the band never missed a beat with the talents of Mike Smith on guitar and vocals, Sean Jenness vocals and cowbell, Ted Armstong on piano and organ and Spencer Hargis on bass and vocals. Classic rock, mostly from the 70s and 80s, a little Lynyrd Skinner, Foreigner, and Rod Stewart along with more recent tunes from the Black Crowes, well satisfied the inside crowd as well as leaving a standing room only crowd outside. Doug Flutie & Sandy Doug was accommodating and sincere. Once I finished Brown at Boston's swooning over his good looks and lean physique, and hopefully avoided making a fool of myself, we talked briefly. Doug and the Flutie Brothers Band members are dedicated to the Doug Flutie Foundation for Autism. For more information on how you can help, click on www. dougflutiefoundationforautism.com Beware of Mumbo Jumbo. Just like potato chips, this band’s music is habit forming. Not going back for more is un-American. Webster’s defines ‘mumbo jumbo’ as “unnecessarily complicated or meaningless.” These guys are neither meaningless nor complicated. Lead Eddie Bowers says “We like to keep things simple.” The real deal and ageless classic rock is what you get when Mumbo Jumbo, draws a no-parkingleft-crowd almost every Friday night at Tiki 52, Blowing Rocks Marina. Florida native, lead singer and guitar Eddie Bowers, is the outgoing, laid back, curly haired, witty and did I forget, one of three totally talented musicians who know how to keep even sober people on the dance floor. Along with Devoe Bassford, the quiet one on bass and vocals, and bringing up the brass, nice guy, Larry Matthews, a master on drums, you have Mumbo Jumbo bringing together a harmony like cerveza and lime. Celebrating almost 25 years together, I was surprised to learn they had no formal music training, simply a love of playing. Mumbo Jumbo is one of the hottest bands around. Eddie Bowers told me “If we get sick of one another we just don’t play for a couple of weeks.” Eddie’s husky, sexy (did he suggest that one?) voice, screams talent as you maybe, kinda think Rod Stewart. Devoe, shy until he smiles and looks like he is up to something, has often sounded like a young Paul McCartney without the Cockney. Larry’s back up vocals are noticeably clear and complimentary; all the while, beating his drums into submission. A range of music from Santana to Elvis to the Georgia Satellites’ one hit wonder, “Keep Your Hands to Yourself” are just a few of so many, for the dancer in all of us. Local BBQ expert at Tiki 52, Perry, stepped to the microphone as I was leaving. His strong and powerful voice called and I stayed for another hour. The crowds love him. Eddie’s son, fourth in line of the Bower boys, sometimes heats the drummer’s seat when Larry’s playing couch potato. Eddie number four is a young energetic drummer whose talent shines. Keith Moon and a lot of sweat come to mind as you watch him work the sticks. Eddie number four could be a solo act and make it work. Mumbo Jumbo is for the masses, the laid back Floridians, semi-natives, tourists and anyone wanting to enjoy one of the local best in classic rock and, have a heap of fun on a Friday night. www.myspace.com/mumbojumbofl

HERE'S WHAT CEDRICK THOMAS WON'T TELL ME
By Baron Beatty
I spoke with Riviera Beach Council Member and candidate for State House District 84 Cedrick A. Thomas about the taxpayer money being spent attacking civic activist Fane Lozman. I was amazed how a sitting Council Member could be so ignorant of the facts and make so many untrue statements in a 6 minute conversation, then arrogantly tell a Riviera citizen to go away and that “he had been very patient with me.” Thomas claimed he “did not know how much money has been spent” on the Fane Lozman issue. How can a sitting councilman not be aware that over $58,000 of taxpayers money has been spent on one floating home? Then Thomas ratcheted up the false statements regarding other issues - here’s what he said and the actual truth:
1. The recent decision in which Circuit Court Judge Jack E. Cox ruled against the City of Riviera Beach for violating the Sunshine Law was -- THOMAS SAID - “A case from way back in 2004, myself and no current council persons were present for this (violation).” TRUTH - Cedrick Thomas himself was a sitting Council Member when the case began - he was elected in March 2007, the case was filed on May 16, 2007. 2. THOMAS SAID - “The city’s position was never that the Sunshine Law didn’t apply to them - that’s not true, I know that for a fact.”
Cedrick A. Thomas Riviera Councilman & Candidate for Florida House District 84
TRUTH - In Judge Cox’s ruling, published last month in the Palm Beach Sun (available at www. palmbeachsun.net archives June 2009 page 11) these words are in print - “The city (Riviera Beach) has continuously taken the position that local governments are not required by the Sunshine Law to record minutes.” 3. THOMAS SAYS - “The city didn’t sue Fane Lozman” TRUTH - Court documents, including the Civil Docket for Case # 9:09-cv-80594-WPD shows The City of Riviera Beach as the “Plaintiff” and Fane Lozman as the Claimant for the Defendant - which is his boat. This legal document clearly shows Riviera Beach did sue Fane Lozman.
Judy L. Davis "No money has changed hands"
I also had a brief conversation with City Council Member Judy L. Davis. She looked agitated that a citizen recognized her in a public place and walked away while talking, unwilling to even stop, shake my hand or ask my name. When asked “Why is the City spending so much money on one guy and one boat?” Davis responded - “No money has changed hands!” and got into her car, unwilling to talk further to a Riviera citizen. I would ask Judy Davis to read the statements below, over $58,000 has “changed hands” - from the taxpayers of Riviera Beach to a legal firm in Miami and National Maritime Services in Ft. Lauderdale. Below is thousands of dollars being spent on vendors outside the city for reasons no one on the City Council will explain.

All this taxpayer cash is being spent on a houseboat that was paying $1150.00 per month rent to the Riviera Beach Marina. Now taxpayers are paying $2,325.00 per month for a slip to dock the boat. How can you justify spending $58,852.58 to evict someone paying $1150.00 a month in rent? No business person spending their own money would engage is such absurd conduct. The Riviera Beach City Council is not spending their own money, they are spending taxpayers cash, while they talk about the budget squeeze and raise taxes. For Cedrick Thomas and Judy Davis to act ignorant and claim not to know the facts about how much taxpayer money is being spent, make untrue statements and treat a citizen of Riviera Beach in a rude manner who asks why this is happening is another example of politicians who should not be re-elected to any public position. If you live in Riviera Beach ask your Council Member how much longer taxpayers will have to pay for this vendetta against Fane Lozman and if the Council Member you speak with acts stupid about it like Cedric Thomas & Judy Davis, claiming they don’t know how much is being spent - tell them to read this page and educate themselves!

PALM BEACH CURSE OF THE FONTAINEBLEAU
t started after the filming of Goldfinger, the James Bond flick. The massive Fontainebleau Hilton Hotel pool area was featured in the opening of the movie. People who worked at the hotel during the 60’s initially called it “The curse of Goldfinger.” It seems bad things started happening to everyone, employees and guests. By the 70’s Goldfinger was removed from memory and it became the curse of the Fontainebleau. Now the “Prince of the Fontainebleau” Ben Novak Jr. has been beaten to death in, of course, a Hilton hotel room. He was 53. It was Ben’s father who realized his dream of building the Fontainebleau Hotel, originally opened in 1954. His young son had a complete run of the place after it opened, given princely status by employees and guests and living in a penthouse. Spoiled rotten is an understatement. By 1977 the curse had engulfed Ben Novak Sr., he filed bankruptcy and lost the hotel. Ben Novak died 9 years later in 1985, some say a broken man. His son Ben Jr., who knew many famous people that performed at the hotel from Sinatra to Sammy Davis Jr., started a convention company booking events for corporations with two more gifts from his father, an alleged $60,000 a year annuity for life and a prized client - Amway, whose officers were loyal to the Novak’s. Locals in Ft. Lauderdale, where Novak Jr. lived are saying it’s his own wife, Narcisa ''Narcy'' Cira Veliz Pacheco Novak, who had admitted hiring people to rob & beat up Novak Jr. 7 years ago, that arranged his death. Ben Novak’s mother, Bernice, had died in April under questionable circumstances, leaving him the entire estate, which was still tied up in probate when he was killed. Novak Jr. told authorities she suffered a fall on a sidewalk. Her autopsy showed a broken jaw, broken teeth and a fractured skull. Her blood was found spattered in several rooms of her house and her car. Bernice was found lying in a pool of her own blood. Her autopsy is not yet “complete” but no one is buying the story of her death by “falling on a sidewalk.” Then there is my story last month about the current owner of the Fontainebleau, Jeffrey Soffer, who has filed for bankruptcy. Now the workers at the hotel, who are unionized, have been unable to get a new contract after being told the hotel will not continue to pay for health benefits and are asking for other cutbacks. This follows the opening of 5 non-union restaurants and a nightclub in the hotel that are all said to be failing. With the debt that Soffer took on to renovate the hotel and build a new tower it allegedly must do a million dollars a day to break even. A contact I have at the hotel says that has happened twice in the last 12 months and the hotel is bleeding money every hour. South American, European & German takeover sharks are circling now, looking to steal the 1600-room oceanfront hotel for a bargain price when Soffer goes belly-up. They have no idea what they are really buying, which may be the end of their life as they know it. WPB corruption continues.........So while WPB raises property taxes amid claims of budget problems, Mayor Lois Frankel and two other commissioners, Molly Douglass and Jeri Muoio saw no problem in firing the company that has cleaned City Hall, the library and parking garages for the last 14 years and paying $146,000 more for an out-of-state company to do the same work. Sunshine Cleaning Services of Broward is out and California’s Diamond Contract Services is in. This in spite of Diamond Contract Services claim to have a local office going up in smoke when the address was found to be a landlord-padlocked unit the company admitted they “had not been using for a while.” Ike Robinson and Kimberly Mitchell voted against the move. Mayor Lois Frankel cast the tie-breaking vote giving the contract to Diamond and spending $146,000 more of taxpayers cash for the same work. New Marlins Stadium will cost us $2.4 Billion..........You may have heard that we are now building another stadium for the Florida Marlins Baseball Team. At a recent Marlins-Braves home game, which was a battle for 2nd place in the standings against a regional rival, there were at least 30,000 empty seats if not more. The local and state politicians that approved this new stadium, probably after promises of campaign contributions from lobbyists, have sold the public a bag of rotten fruit, telling us this will cost $409 million. Merrill Lynch lent us $220 million, which results in annual payments thru 2049 that range from $9.6 million in 2010 and are as high as $71 million per year in future years. JP Morgan lent us $80 million for construction, with repayment not starting until 2025. By then the stadium will be obsolete. But interest will accrue, resulting in massive payments, including 6 years of scheduled annual payments of $118 million from 2041 to 2047, which follows annual payments of $83 million per year from 2038 to 2041. Borrowing the $409 million will end up costing $2.4 billion in payments thru the middle of this century. Politicians say the money will come from tourist taxes, and if that’s not enough, from the general fund, which is mainly funded by property taxes. This year the tourist tax fund is on track to generate $7 million. The math does not work and this scheme is so crazy it borders on criminal. But the politicians who rammed this thru will be long gone by the time the bills start bankrupting us in 2025. Mandatory minimum sentences don’t apply to Police Chief’s family............. There are many stories of young black men, caught 3 times with crack cocaine, doing 10 years of “mandatory” time. Judges claim their “hands are tied” by the law and they must hand down these sentences. Then there’s Ft. Lauderdale Police Chief Frank Adderley’s wife, Eleanor. She admitted to everyone including newspapers that she took a hand gun and shot at least three times at her husband,

any people ask me if they should leave their house or condominium as soon as they are served with a foreclosure offence. I tell them NO! The mortgage holder suing you has to first win the case against you either by default, summary judgment or by going to trial. Once you get the summons, do not ignore the requirement to file a response to the foreclosure complaint with the court within 30 days of being served. The complaint may be defective, if there is a different mortgage holder as plaintiff on the foreclosure complaint, or if the plaintiff mortgage holder is different than the original mortgage holder you originally signed on the dotted line with and there is no assignment of the original mortgage holder to the new one. There is also the possibility of a short sale or to file a motion to dismiss the complaint due to it being defective. Whatever you do, don’t put your head in the sand and do nothing. Call a lawyer, call legal aid or another agency. You can even represent yourself, which is dangerous due to all the technicalities of a law suit. It’s a lot cheaper to talk to a lawyer before the plaintiff has a judgment against you and a scheduled foreclosure sale.

both while he laid in his bed and while he was running thru his yard to get away. That offense, aggravated assault with a firearm, carries a minimum 20year sentence. But the Broward County State Attorney, Mike Satz has agreed to a plea deal that makes the gun disappear completely. The new charge is “aggravated assault without a firearm.” The Police Chief’s wife pleaded “no contest” to the new charge and now she faces a minimum of 9 months in the county jail. So no need for a trial, no guilty verdict on her record, no state prison time and we’ll just pretend you didn’t have a gun or shoot at anyone. These are the scales of justice in America. Deadly month for boxers..........July of 2009 may have been the deadliest month in history for professional boxers. 1992 Olympic boxer and former Light-Middleweight Champion Vernon Forrest was shot dead while being carjacked in Atlanta, he was 38. World Champion Arturro Gatti, 37, was strangled while passed out drunk, some say by his wife, even though a Brazilian court absurdly ruled it a suicide (a professional boxer gets drunk and chokes himself with his wife’s purse strap?) The great Champion Alexis Arguello, who had become Mayor in his hometown of Managua, Nicaragua, was shot to death in what authorities there are calling a suicide. And last weekend in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, heavyweight Francisco “Poncho” Moncivias was killed by a vicious knockout punch in the ring at the Horseshoe Casino. What they won’t tell you.............While America paid little attention and news media controlled by a very few barely mentioned it and then dropped the story, it appears the U.S. Government and U.S. International Corporations have conspired with outlaws to overthrow the democratically elected President of Honduras. The ousted leader, Manuel Zelaya, has offered to speak with many U.S. news outlets, but they have refused to interview him. Zelaya claims the coup was carried out by “some very conservative sectors in the United States” and that the coup was financed by “10 economic groups.” Zelaya also claims the military soldiers and commanders used to overthrow the government were trained for the operation at military School of the Americas in Fort Benning, Georgia. The ousted President made this statement, carried by many news outlets outside of the U.S. - “The coup in Honduras was made by a group of ambitious businessmen that want to maintain their privileges associated to U.S. multinational companies with political puppets and a corrupt military.” Zelaya and others have claimed that two priests, Andres Tamayo and Padre Fausto Milla were severely beaten after leading a small protest against the coup leaders. He also claims “thousands have been taken to prisons” and points to some strange words from President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. President Obama originally called it a “coup” but the U.S. State Department essentially retracted the word, refusing to label it a coup during a press conference. Then Hillary Clinton was quoted in the U.S. press saying that Zelaya’s traveling over the Honduras border after the coup was “reckless” and seeming to undermine him. Former President Bill Clinton’s lawyer, Lanny Davis, is the lawyer for the Honduras chapter of the Business Council of Latin America and says he represents Camilo Atala and Jorge Canahuati, two of the people Zelaya points to as financers of the coup. Then there is another funny thing, the U.S. government continues its $180 million aid to Honduras, which is being given directly to the new leaders, who commandeered Zelaya at gunpoint at 5:00 AM, and with no trial escorted him out of the country for reasons unknown. Finally Zelaya said this - “I know that there are many hawks from the old guard in the United States and the CIA supporting violence and arms as a method to solve problems” - insinuating that anyone who opposes U.S. Corporate interest will be dealt with by military means. The question is where is our alleged free national press on this one? Have you heard about...........A new version of the Rockford Files may be back on TV, casting for the part that James Garner made famous is happening now..........Annie Leibovitz, the famous photographer is being sued for repayment of over $24 million in loans she took out. The deals allegedly called for her to sell many famous photos and two of her homes to pay back the cash - she has not - according to insiders Leibovitz has a contract with Vanity Fair that pays her $2 million a year but she is stone broke..........Famed NYC nightclub The Limelight is reopening - as a retail store. Opened in 1983 by Peter Gatien, famous for his eye patch, he was deported to Canada for tax evasion and drug dealing after exposing everyone to a club that catered openly to trannies and weirdo’s of every stripe but famously refused entry to a Jesus look-alike carrying a huge cross on his back who returned for weeks trying to get in, and then there was Michael Alig, now in prison for killing the Limelight’s in-house drug dealer and the subject of a movie and an A & E Special. Before The Limelight opened the space was an Episcopalian Church........The brewing storm at the Palm Beach Opera involving a rudely dismissed Development Director suffering from cancer being fired in a plot allegedly hatched by a high ranking Cancer Ball official who happens to be an Opera Board Member - behind his back society types are using the episode to scheme against him socially - calling it a “classless act of chauvinism” and spreading the word that “his time has passed” to continue in his position for the Cancer Ball. Remember, don’t repeat a word of this! It’s all on the QT!

WHAT'S HOT? SINGER ISLAND AREA CONDOS
idway thru the long hot summer, oceanfront condo sales are averaging about 10 per month and pending sales are holding up as well. The stats are also good on sales of new home construction nationwide. And PAGE TWO of the Palm Beach Post recently reported that multibillionaire Bill Gates may be shopping for waterfront properties in Martin and Palm Beach Counties with $65 Million to spend. When investment firms like Seattle-based Cascade Investments are in the market buying high end luxury properties, this may signal that the market has bottomed out. It has been several years since investors sent signals that the time is ripe to Marilyn D. Peirce purchase big ticket real estate. Many of my "BEST BUYS" noted in this newsletter have been sold. Savvy Buyers are picking off the better offerings that are priced correctly and once these good deals are harder to find, prices will firm up again. Until that time, we are still in a "buyers market."

The re-development and construction on the new Ocean Mall is progressing nicely. Catalfumo acquired a 50-year lease from the city of Riviera Beach and is replacing the mall with 60,000 square feet of shops and restaurants on the 11-acre site. Today, three businesses remain on site - Portofino Italian Grill, 7-11 convenience store and Subway. The North end and South end are being constructed during the first phase and the middle section will follow soon after. Approximately 400 parking spaces will be replaced and the beach will continue to be accessible to the public during the entire redevelopment process. The New Ocean Mall will definitely enhance the entrance to Singer Island and offer new quality conveniences and restaurants to our residents and visitors. The completion date of the project is scheduled for December 2009.
PUBLIX IS COMING The land has been cleared and construction is now underway on the beautiful new Publix located across from Marina Grande on Lakeshore Drive. A 28,000 square foot state of the art Publix will be built on this site featuring a beautiful glass façade facing Blue Heron Boulevard and will provide a quality shopping location for Riviera Beach-Singer Island residents.
