What Exactly Are These Mites?

The first group of mites are known as surface mites. They called surface mites because mostly live on the surface of the animals skin.

The first mite within this group is called cheyletiella mites, they are a very light color and are pretty easy to see.

The second surface mite is known as harvest mites, these are tiny reddish colored mites that usually occur around fall. Not much treatment is needed for these mites. Flea and tick repellant works great to get rid of surface mites on dogs.

Ear mites are pretty common. these will drive a dog crazy. You can tell when these mites are present by the frequent shaking of the dogs head. Ear mites make their home within the dogs ear and cause dry crusty areas inside the ear. Ear mites can definitely make their way to a new home inside another dogs ear. Treatment isn't so bad and can be treated with little effort.
