TWT is a collaborave project between the Digital Imaging and Landscape Groups of the RPS which aims to bring photographers together to work on a specific theme. The events have three parts; a talk by an expert in the field, a walk in their own area, and a talk together to discuss the photos taken on the walk.
The Autumn 2025 Talk-Walk-Talk theme was ‘Inland Water’. The opening on-line talk was by Vanda Ralevska who talked about photographing water, reflecons, and around the water's edge.
This zine includes images from the twelve photographers that aended the event featuring River Avon and the Kennet and Avon Canal in Bath on Monday the 6th of October.
Images from the walk were reviewed and discussed at the follow-up meeng held at the Arnos Manor Hotel in Bristol on the Wednesday 29th of October.
At the follow-up meeng, two images were selected for inclusion in the naonal Talk Walk Talk gallery and e-Zine; Alex's 'Bristol & Beyond', seen opposite, and Neil's 'Canal Crossing', which is featured later in the zine.
The images collated here have been selected to show how Vanda's advice was put into pracce in Bath. They also illustrate how different photographers can see the same subject maer in very different ways.
We hope you enjoy seeing the images as much as we enjoyed making them.

I have been to Bath and its canal and river many times, but this was the first time that I had gone with my camera and with the explicit intention of scrutinising the landscape for interesting images. One of the most interesting opportunities was the surface water as we started our photo walk. It was a bright sunny day and the reflections on the water from the bus and train station buildings were pretty stunning. Lots of bright colours stretched and distorted by the gentle ripples in the river water providing great abstract images. All in all this was a fantastic day out with a great group of fellow photographers.

I find it fascinating that a group of photographers can visit the same area on the same day and yet produce such different images.

This was my fifth TWT with Steve and it was yet another great day out, so well organised, as usual, with excellent company, exploring the waterways running through Bath, which I had never done before with my camera. The weather was warm and there were lovely patches of light here and there, with superb reflections and it was very difficult to choose my images for the zine, so I opted for a variety of different types of shots, which I hope reflect the a little of the vast range of photo opportunities on offer on the walk. The ice creams by the lock gates were fabulous!

Taken as I wanted an image of several boats together in a peaceful setting; it took me quite a while to find a suitable location. I hope this image meets what was intended for a feeling of tranquillity of the canal which was my objective.

Taken from the Parade Gardens as I wanted a different view of the bridge, which are usually taken from the opposite side of the river. Also including the river boat made the picture more interesting.

Taken due to the fact that it was the first time, as far as I can remember, that I have seen a view of bridge through the arch of another bridge.

This was the fifth TWT event that I have led. The previous ones focused on Coastal Landscapes, Urban Landscapes, Woodlands and Parks & Gardens. Every one has been a pleasure with some interesting topics, excellent professional talks and lovely photographers providing great company on the walks and sharing super images for discussion at the follow up meetings.
This one was a very agreeable Plan B; my Plan A was to visit a couple of local reservoirs but the dry weather meant that they were less than 50% full and not very picturesque. The Bath river and canal walk is one I have done many times, and water is always guaranteed. Thankfully, the weather on the day was most cooperative and allowed some beautiful bright images with some amazing reflections.
Due to my familiarity with the locations, I decided to concentrate on the reflections. That forced me into making some images that are way more abstract than my normal approach, which I enjoyed very much. I did do some more literal work on the day, but the images shared with the group were all reflections.
