Address issues in comprehension: A GD isn’t just about presenting your viewpoint – it’s a mindshare, a conversation, aimed at coming up with the best possible solution to the situation at hand. And to ace that, you need to take notes. The mental kind. Immediately. Acknowledge (to self) that everyone here has something important to say and add to the puzzle you’re working on. Take your cues from everyone else, including the interviewer. And build on your responses accordingly.

Used interchangeably as a screening round with the group discussion, the core component here is that you’re facing a set of interviewers, ready to interact with you. The approach is a little formal in tone, vis a vis the group discussion, though it can easily be a test of your situational awareness, clarity in thought, communication and judgement skills. a. It can be an interview with the project manager or supervisor, it can be an assessment on your core subject or a situational test. Here is the step-by-step guide for working it in style: a. Background research: Begin with the areas/domains that the company works on and the common challenges it can face in terms of products/services and their execution. Dive into Quora, Glassdoor and other sources for interview experiences with the company or its closest competitors. And always brush up on the products that the company offers. b. Practice coding challenges: More often than not, you would be asked to code or work on a solution to a technical problem. And it’s not just that you arrive at a solution – your execution should be clear and comprehensible. Work on multiple practice

The HR interview is a case of conviction, where you need to convince the HR personnel, checking you for possible red flags, that you’re the best fit for the role at hand. To prepare for this, you need to work on similar zones, as we have already mentioned above, albeit in a different context. a. Background research Research the role, the company, it’s market, products and close competitors, as well as the general domain in which it exists. And apply that knowledge to your HR interview, by showcasing how involved and enthused you’re about the current opportunity. b. Keep your things in order: A day before the interview, prep up by putting together your documents, your interview attire, going through your notes. 1.BRAIN TEASER The captain says he will take 98 coins, and will give one coin to the third most senior pirate and another coin to the most junior pirate. He then explains his decision in a manner like this. If there were 2 pirates, pirate 2 being the most senior, he would just vote for himself and that would be 50% of the vote, so he’s obviously going to keep all the money for himself. If there were 3 pirates, pirate 3 has to convince at least one other person to join in his plan. Pirate 3 would take 99 gold coins and give 1 coin to pirate 1. Pirate 1 knows if he does not vote for pirate 3, then he gets nothing, so obviously is going to vote for this plan. If there were 4 pirates, pirate 4 would give 1 coin to pirate 2, and pirate 2 knows if he does not vote for pirate 4, then he gets nothing, so obviously is going to vote for this plan. As there are 5 pirates, pirates 1 & 3 had obviously better vote for the captain, or they face choosing nothing or risking death.

2.BRAIN TEASER If there are n unfaithful husbands (UHs), every wife of an UH knows of n-1 UH's while every wife of a faithful husband knows of n UHs. [this because everyone has perfect information about everything except the fidelity of their own husband]. Now we do a simple induction: Assume that there is only one UH. Then all the wives but one know that there is just one UH, but the wife of the UH thinks that everyone is faithful. Upon hearing that "there is at least one UH", the wife realizes that the only husband it can be is her own, and so shoots him. Now, imagine that there are just two UH's. Each wife of an UH assumes that the situation is "only one UH in town" and so waits to hear the other wife (she knows who it is, of course) shoot her husband on the first night. When no one is shot, that can only be because her OWN husband was a second UH. The wife of the second UH makes the same deduction when no shot is fired the first night (she was waiting, and expecting the other to shoot, too). So they both figure it out after the first night, and shoot their husbands the second night.
