COME RAIN OR SHINE, 848 SCOUTERS ARE PREPARED
Celebrating 30 Years of Practice The annual bus trip to the BSA summer camp is a highly anticipated adventure for the scouts of Troop 848. Summer camp is a time for lots of sun and fun with water sports, swimming, learning new skills to earn merit badges, meeting scouts from other troops, and simply enjoying the a great outdoor camp experience of a BSA camp. This summer, 50 scouters were scheduled to travel to Woodruff Scout Camp, located in Georgia, a popular camping destination for the troop. However, the unexpected occurred when Tropical Storm Cindy made her appearance. While the greater Clear Lake area was mostly spared from Cindy's wicked rain, unfortunately Woodruff suffered rain on most days of the camp week.

Fortunately, the scouting motto is "be prepared" and 848 scouts learn skills to be prepared at any moment to face difficulties by knowing what to do and how to do it. So, the scouts and adult scouters made the best of the wet situation and forged on with merit badge classes and other daily activities. They even found humor in "wet & wild" Wednesday. While tents and campers returned home somewhat soggy, they came home with stories to tell about some memorable camp moments. If you have a boy interested in boy scouts or you seek a fun and vibrant troop, or if you wish to volunteer with Troop 848, please check out our website at www.bsatroop848.org. But, thanks to Assistance League of the Bay Area, many young men and women were referred through their schools to participate in Operation Cinderella this year. Students identified by their high school officials as economically disadvantaged in Clear Creek, Dickinson, and La Porte School Districts received head to toe prom-appropriate attire. This year Assistance League members were pleased to outfit 120 young women and men for Prom 2017. Additionally, through partnerships with College of the Mainland in Texas City and Paul Mitchell The School in Webster, thirty-three young women received complimentary salon services. JillĂs Fashions and Bridals in League City continues to donate stunning ball gowns each year as well as allows the organization to provide tuxedo rentals at a fraction of the cost. Although this philanthropic program serves the community directly during March, April, and May, Assistance League continues to accept donations of new and gently-used formal dresses, shoes, jewelry and purses at their resale shop located at 100 E. NASA Parkway in Webster. Dresses may be dropped off during store hours Wednesdays & Thursdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday & Saturdays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Assistance League of the Bay Area, a chapter of National Assistance League, is an all-volunteer nonprofit, nonsectarian IRS 501(c)(3) organization. Donations are tax-deductible in accordance with IRS guidelines. To Advertise Call 281-488-7422

Water Damage / Restoration Specialist CHURCHES & RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS GRIEFSHARE AT WEBSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH GriefShare is starting again at Webster Presbyterian Church. This program features Christ-centered teaching that focuses on grief topics associated with the death of a loved one. DVD seminars are followed by a small group discussion about what was viewed. Past participants have related how helpful the information and followup discussions were to them. Many grieving people find they are only beginning the work of healing when friends or family have returned to their daily life routines. Too often people tend to stuff their grief instead of allowing it to do the God given work for which it is intended. Don’t allow fear of what others may think keep you from what could help you. death of a spouse, child, parent, sibling, other family member, or friend. No matter what the cause of your loved one’s death, this is an opportunity to be around people who understand what you are feeling, leading to a renewal of hope for the future. While it is best to start with the first one, GriefShare is designed so that someone may start at any session and still receive care. GriefShare will start Wednesday, August 30 from 6:30-8:30pm at Webster Presbyterian Church on 201 W. NASA Road in the parlour. Cost: $15. Any questions, call Pastor Helen DeLeon at 281-332-1251. To register, call the church office 281-3321251 by August 28.

“The Great American Eclipse” is the Rev. Mary Bostrom topic as she speaks to NASA Aglow on Thursday, August 10 at 9:30. NASA Space Center is on high alert regarding “The Great American Eclipse’ that will be over our nation from off the coast of Oregon to off the coast of South Carolina August 21, 2017. But they may not be aware that this is a HUGE sign on God’s prophetic calendar. God intended the lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and be for SIGNS and seasons’ (Genesis 1:14). God does not change; His Word does not change and He is still giving us signs in the heavens. The first question in the New Testament was from the Magi from the east, “Where is He that is born the King of the Jews? We saw HIS STAR and have come to worship Him.” They knew what to look for on God’s incredible heavenly billboard. Mary will be coming to NASA Aglow to share how this incredible solar eclipse over the United States is a message from God for our nation. She will also be sharing regarding the Revelation 12 sign in the heaven on September 23, 2017. Come and hear what you will not hear on the national news and “keep looking up” for His Second Coming. (Luke 21:28) All ladies are invited to NASA Aglow which meets the 2nd Thursday of every month at Praise Chapel at 9:30; then they go to a nearby restaurant afterwards. Praise Chapel is located at 18615 Hwy 3, Webster. From I-45 go east on NASA Road 1 and turn left on Hwy 3. The church is on the left about 1 block. For more information, please call Sheila at 281-910-1970.
