What is Dash? What is Dash (DASH)? Dash is currently the 12th largest cryptocurrency by market cap (https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dash/) with a cap of nearly $1.5 billion and a current price of $169 per coin. Well that’s the numbers but as with all cryptocurrencies, especially from an investing point of view, it’s the project and the team that also make a coin with investing. Dash (think Digital Cash) is a hard fork from Bitcoin, originally launched in 2014 as “Xcoin”, it was rebranded as Dark coin and then finally Dash in March 2015.

Dash is open source and decentralised and was designed to offer fast transaction times as well as anonymity it also uses a system known as “governance” whereby Masternodes make the decisions on the blockchain. To be a Masternode, one has to own at least 1000 DASH, which is considerable investment. However, Masternodes get paid via dividends which incentivizes them to work in the best interest of the network. Dash also aims to promote privacy and fungibility by simply put swapping coins amongst users to remove their traceability. Every Bitcoin has a history which is permanently stored on the blockchain and certain coins may have a chequered history (involvement in Scams, Drugs sites or other nefarious activities) and may even be blocked or banned on exchanges. Dash in it’s attempt to be a “digital cash” has been quite successful so far, in Asia there are debit cards that can convert Dash into everyday purchases (one of the reasons for a quick transaction speed). So, it seems Dash does have the potential to become a mainstream currency and in the view of Digital Market Xchange is a coin worth HODLing!
