Charity Benefit

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has been the sole beneficiary of PGA TOUR events in Memphis since 1970, with total contributions exceeding $43 million. Among the tournament week activities, the St. Jude Jam on Tuesday night at the FedEx Forum raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for the hospital.

XX FedEx is the new sponsor of the event that has been played at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, since the World Golf Championships started in 1999. The TPC Southwind site formerly hosted the FedEx St. Jude Classic. XX Dustin Johnson has a strong track record in the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational and at TPC Southwind. He won the FedEx St. Jude Classic at TPC Southwind in 2012 and 2018 and was T3 at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in 2018 after winning the event in 2016 when played at

Firestone Country Club. XX With his victory last year, Justin Thomas became the fifth player to win a FedExCup title, a major championship and a WGC event (later in the year, Justin Rose became the sixth when he won the FedExCup). Thomas was the youngest at age 25. XX Thomas is the fourth youngest winner of the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, behind Tiger Woods (23 and 24 in 1999, 2000) and Rory McIlroy (a younger 25 in 2014).

For Thorbjørn Olesen, it was his first time at TPC Southwind; he went on to finish T3.

The two par-3s on the back nine at TPC Southwind are particularly noteworthy. The 162-yard 11th is surrounded by water, reminiscent of the 17th at TPC Sawgrass except there is more fringe area and two bunkers in back of the green as well as a small one in front. The 239-yard 14th, with water front and right, is annually one of the toughest holes on the course.
