NEW EVENT The PGA TOUR holds its first event in the city of Detroit with the debut of the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The PGA TOUR has visited the Detroit area before, with the Buick Open in Grand Blanc held from 1958 to 2009, but this time it moves inside the city limits to Detroit Golf Club. Quicken Loans, the nation’s largest home mortgage lender, has sponsored the PGA TOUR event in the Washington, D.C., area and now moves to its home city. “Quicken Loans has been a tremendous PGA TOUR partner for several years now, making an impact through the innovative spirit and community-first mindset the organization and its leaders bring to every endeavor,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan. “We’re thrilled to take this new step in our partnership and bring a PGA TOUR event to the great city of Detroit.” Quicken Loans CEO Jay Farmer said, “The PGA TOUR stop in Detroit is the latest major announcement confirming Detroit is well on its way to becoming one of our country’s premier entertainment destinations. There is an undeniable energy in the city that we are eager to showcase.” Detroit Golf Club has 36 holes of vintage Donald Ross design, with the North Course (actually a tournament course with one hole borrowed from the South) recently lengthened to 7,309 yards to accommodate the pros while retaining its overall character. Among the changes are the tournament fourth hole, a par 5 with 75 yards added to make it 625, and the 18th, where a new tee stretches it to a tough 460-yard finisher. W W W.PGATOUR.COM
