Monitoring our health and fitness are the positive steps to take using Omron Healthcare’s reliable devices

An energetic and successful tournament season is the aim of all professional golfers, and this requires a high fitness level. To achieve this fitness level, players at the top of their game follow a rigorous fitness regime that far exceeds what most regular weekend players will take on. However, maintaining a good fitness level is important for us all, on or off the greens. Omron Healthcare is behind a nationwide initiative that helps us check our own health status, shows us how to take steps to make improvements where that might be necessary, and how to treat those debilitating aches and pains. Let’s look first at high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. YOUR HEALTHY HEART High blood pressure is common enough through a variety of causes including poor diet, lack of exercise, and stress. But with a recent survey revealing that 50 percent of people with high blood pressure are unaware of their condition, how are we to know if we have blood pressure higher than normal? Omron Healthcare is urging us all to maintain a healthy heart by monitoring our blood pressure, which can easily be done at home—monitor morning and night is the recommendation, in order to

get a fuller picture of your heart health. Omron has developed cutting-edge blood pressure monitors you can depend upon; these devices are portable and easy to use. Having chosen your blood pressure monitor from the Omron range, monitoring your blood pressure at home is straightforward. Here are some simple steps:

Thirty minutes prior to taking a reading—avoid eating; avoid alcohol or caffeinated beverages; also avoid smoking, exercising, bathing; and rest for 15 minutes before starting the measurement. Avoid taking a measurement during stressful times, and take your measurement in a quiet place. For comparison purposes try to take readings at the same time each day (for example, once in the morning and once at night). Sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor. Rest your arm on a table with your palm facing upward. The cuff (whether on your upper arm or wrist) should be level with your heart. Don’t talk or move during the measurement. Many Omron blood pressure monitors can store your results on the device or in an app for later review at the push of a button, so you can share the results with your doctor. The great benefit of monitoring your blood pressure at home is being able to check and maintain your healthy heart on a regular basis; also, the monitor can indicate that you should be making lifestyle changes when necessary, changes that can help you avoid a stroke or heart condition. • For more information visit OmronHealthcare.com/golf-heart
