X Jordan Spieth just missed successfully defending his 2016 title, finishing T2. The only player to win at Colonial two straight years was Ben Hogan, who did it twice (1946-47 and 1952-53). X Spain’s Jon Rahm nearly won in his first start at the DEAN & DELUCA Invitational,
finishing T2. The last player to win his first start in the event was fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia (2001). X Kevin Kisner won by one stroke, making it the 10th time in 12 years the event has been decided by one stroke or in a playoff. There have been four playoffs and six one-stroke victory margins during that time.

Holes 3-5 at Colonial comprise the club’s “Horrible Horseshoe,” the most difficult stretch on the course that begins with a 483-yard par 4. Next is a par 3 of up to 247 yards that plays to an elevated green. It has never yielded a hole-in-one in the tournament. The fifth is a 481-yard par 4 that runs between trees and a ditch on the left and the Trinity River on the right.
