X Jordan Spieth joined Jack Nicklaus as the only players to win three legs of the Grand Slam before their 24th birthday, Spieth having won the Masters and U.S. Open in 2015. He turned 24 four days after The Open Championship. X In the modern era (post World War II), only Tiger Woods, with 15, has more wins on the PGA TOUR before turning 24 than Spieth’s 11.

X Spieth became the fifth player to win The Open with four rounds in the 60s, joining Greg Norman (1993), Nick Price (1994), Tiger Woods (2000) and Henrik Stenson (2016). X Spieth shared the first-round lead and led after each of the other rounds, becoming the 13th player to either lead or co-lead after every round (including seven who led outright after every round).

Matt Kuchar, who battled hard for the title throughout the final round before finishing second, commented, “You work so hard to get to this position and to have a chance to make history and win a championship. You don’t get that many opportunities. And to be this close, to taste it with five holes to go, it’s a hard one to sit back and take.”

The 487-yard par-4 18th hole is one of the hardest in golf, with Barry Burn snaking around to guard both sides of the fairway on the tee shot and the front of the green on the approach, forcing a layup if the drive finds a questionable lie in the rough or a bunker. It played to a 4.611 average in the 2007 Open, with 44 double bogeys and 10 triple bogeys or worse.
