TOURNAMENT OVERVIEW

SEPTEMBER 10-13, 2020

Safeway Open Stewart Cink and local charities shared a winning feeling at the 2020 Safeway Open at Silverado Resort.

Location & Course Information

NAPA, CALIF. SILVERADO RESORT AND SPA (NORTH COURSE) The North Course at Silverado was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. in 1967 and was extensively redesigned by World Golf Hall of Famer Johnny Miller in 2010 after he and his business partners bought the property. Yardage: 7,166; par 72.

Notable Course Features

The finishing stretch at Silverado North features good birdie opportunities. The 16th and 18th are par 5s that, while not pushovers at 571 and 575 yards, offer long and sometimes medium hitters the chance to get home in two. The 17th is a short par 4 of 375 yards offering a wedge approach.

“I’ve played some good golf over the years, but it’s been a while since I played really well over four rounds.” — Stewart Cink 20 20

HOW STEWART CINK WON

At age 47, Stewart Cink claimed his first victory since the 2009 Open Championship with a final-round 65 to finish two strokes ahead of Harry Higgs. Cink birdied five of eight holes starting at No. 4, added birdies on 15 and 16, then recovered from a bogey on 17 with a twoputt birdie from the collar at the par-5 18th.  In the final round, Cink chipped in for a birdie from 20 feet on the 11th and holed a putt from the fringe from 20 feet on the 15th.  Cink led the field in Greens in Regulation Percentage (84.72).

CHECK THIS OUT  Cink (47 years, three months) was the second oldest winner of the Safeway Open, after Rocco Mediate (47 years, 10 months in 2010).  Cink’s 23-year-old son, Reagan, was his caddie for the week.  Cink’s 21-under-par total was a tournament record.  Cink earned his seventh career victory; Safeway also marked his 100th top-10 finish.  Chez Reavie shot 29 on the back nine and Doc Redman birdied the last six holes for a 62 as they finished T3.
