TOURNAMENT OVERVIEW

FEBRUARY 18-21, 2021

Location & Course Information

PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF. THE RIVIERA COUNTRY CLUB George C. Thomas designed Riviera Country Club, acclaimed as one of the best courses in the United States when it opened in 1927. Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore did a renovation in 1992, and since 2002 Tom Fazio has supervised some changes, including lengthening. Yardage: 7,322; par 71.

The Genesis Invitational Adam Scott, chasing his first PGA TOUR victory since 2016, plays a shot off the 14th tee at Riviera in the final round of the Genesis Invitational.

Notable Course Features The 315-yard 10th is one of the most intriguing holes on the PGA TOUR, often set up as a drivable par 4. The green is small and set at an angle, so it is difficult to hit. Shots from around the green are challenging, making the decision of whether to go for it a difficult one.

Charity Benefit

The tournament benefits Tiger Woods’ TGR Foundation and its mission to help students pursue their passions through education. Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2021, the foundation provides students with pathways to success through its award-winning STEM programs, college-access and scholarship offerings, a digital platform and teacher training. HOW ADAM SCOTT WON

Tied with Rory McIlroy and Matt Kuchar entering the final round, Adam Scott claimed the title by shooting a 70 while the other two players were over par. Scott made a double bogey on the fifth hole, but averted another double bogey with a one-putt bogey on the 15th and locked up the victory with his fifth birdie of the day on the 17th hole.  Scott ranked T63 in hitting fairways (23 of 56), but first in Greens in Regulation (52 of 72).  Scott’s 64 in the second round included a 5-under 31 on the back nine.

 Adam Scott won the event in a playoff in 2005, but it didn’t count as an official victory because the tournament was shortened to 36 holes by bad weather. He finished second in 2006 and 2016.  Scott was the fourth 54-hole leader/co-leader to win The Genesis Invitational in the last five years (J.B. Holmes came from behind in 2019).  Scott was the first international winner of The Genesis Invitational since fellow Australian Aaron Baddeley in 2011.
