EDITOR’S LETTER Well well well what a packed July it’s been on this sunshine island of ours! We’ve experienced some great gigs in July from the Mallorca Rocks guys including Mark Ronson, as well as the BBC Radio 1 Extra party which saw Trevor Nelson and Tim Westwood heat up the decks. However if that wasn’t your scene there was the Grammy award winning singer Seal performing in Santa Ponsa and Dani Martin in Son Fusteret to name but a few. All in all it was a great month for music, but we shouldn’t forget all the other great stuff including art exhibitions and events that have been happening across the island.

Personal recommendations from your favourite Destination Guide

The music and activities aren’t going to stop and throughout August there are still loads of great music gigs, concerts, art exhibitions and loads more events happening across the whole island.

“In my work the most important thing is that they are individual photos. Certainly the photographs should be placed with consistency, but what is crucial is that each has its own place and feeling.“ This exhibition is a collection of portraits and photographs of most amazing landscapes and street scenes that Steve McCurry has taken over the past 27 years. Along with breathtaking views of sandstone city, mountain landscapes and ancient temples are children, shepherds, soldiers or workers. These images are full of lyricism and captures the enduring spirit, the greatness and beauty of the landscape and its people. T he Dígame Drive THIS MONTH

Mallorca’s Central Plain This lovely drive traverses the central plain of Mallorca following some of the old Roman roads through stunning almond and apricot groves on its way to several of the small market towns on the island. Start off in the sleepy little village of Petra, and from there follow signs towards Santa Margalida, you can stop to have an wander around or you can bypass Santa Margalida and bear left on the road following the signs towards Muro. When you arrive in Muro, it’s worth taking the Carrer Major which take you up to the museum of Muro. If you’re not going to visit the museum, continue along Carrer Major and cross over the crossroads, which takes you past the church of Sant Joan Baptista towards Sa Pobla. You’ll then drive past beautiful red earth potato fields with numerous windmills dotted across the landscape. In the distance you’ll see the mountains. From Sa Pobla, follow signs onto Llubi, when you reach Llubi follow the road uphill into the village and then back down again to make it to the main road. Cross the road and take the narrow track towards Sineu. On driving to Sineu you’ll again be driving through the beautiful Mallorcan countryside, it’s really worth having your camera available so you can

capture some of the beautiful scenery. On entering the town, you’ll come across a very modern sculpture, it’s worth a closer look. Follow signs to Sant Joan and then from Sant Joan turn right and follow the road towards Montuiri, which is worth a brief stop for a coffee and to stretch your legs. On leaving Montuiri you’ll cross the Palma/ Manacor highway by the Orquidea pearl shop and you need to make sure that you follow the signs for Porreres. A short detour will take you up to the Santuari de Montesio if you fancy it. Leave Porreres in the direction of Vilafranca de Bonany and turn left in Vilafranca and pass Els Calderers on your right.
