Create portfolios

Create portfolios It is now possible to create international portfolios with our trader's workstation. This useful functionality is available by clicking on 'Portfolios' in the "Display" menu of the main window. The software offers you a wide range of options for each functionality. For the portfolios you can for example define the initial cash amount involved, the commission to pay for each transaction and the currency used for the securities of the portfolio. Modifications can be made at any time after the creation of your portfolio . The following image shows how to create a portfolio.

14 / 143

Create portfolios

Your portfolios are automatically updated, giving you the latest calculations of important figures such as the overall and relative gain of portfolios and securities. The following image gives you an example of how to add a transaction.

15 / 143

Create portfolios

Each of your transactions within a portfolio are saved in the history list. This enables you to easily modify or delete any previous transaction : once again, modifications appear instantly.

16 / 143

17 / 143

Create portfolios

Changing columns order The 'Portfolios' menu displays two tables: one with the list of your existing portfolios and the one below with the securities of each portfolio. These tables have columns which you can modify as you wish. Left-click on the wrench tool outlined below in yellow to open a small window with the list of all available columns.

Colums that are already checked are the ones currently displayed in the table. On any table in the window 'Lists', the window 'Top Movers' or the window 'Portfolios', you can always left-click on the tool icon and select the columns you want to add or delete. The columns will appear or disappear as you click.

The data on each column is described below:

Table displaying portfolios Current Value - Current total value of the portfolio. The value is calculated with the latest quotes of the securities in the portfolio. % Gain - Profitability of the portfolio. Total Gain - Current gain or loss of your current positions in the market. Today's gain - Daily appreciation or depreciation. Invested cash - Global valuation of assets of the portfolio. Cash - Liquid assets.

Table displaying portfolio details

Price - Price at which the securities were bought. Book cost - Total valuation of securities at the moment they were purchased. This amount takes into account the commission. The calculation method for this mean price is therefore the mean quote of (Quantity x Price + Commission).

19 / 143

Create portfolios

Current Value - Total current valuation of securities ie. Quantity x Last quote. Gain - Difference between Current Value and price at which the securities were initially acquired. % Gain - Percentage difference of gain. Security - Nature of financial instrument (bond, currency, fund, future, index, option, stock or warrant). ISIN - Share code composed of 12 characters of which the first two signify the place where the shares are quoted. Ticker - Code symbol composed of 3 characters. Exchange - Financial market where the security is traded.

20 / 143

History and timescale

History and timescale You can define two different parameters regarding the quantity of quotes to load (Duration) and the timescale (View) for the charts you are viewing.

Left drop-down menu: define the number of quotes to load This option is available in both Intraday and End of Day mode. It defines the quantity of data you wish to load. For instance, if you wish to have 2 years of historical data, select "2 years" in the drop-down menu named 'Duration'. If you change to a different chart, the 'Duration' will not change. To use the same example: if you load 2 years of historical data for one stock, say Vodafone, and then switch to another stock, say Microsoft, it will also be displayed with 2 years of data. The time it takes to load the security will directly depend on the chosen 'Duration': 1 day of quotations will take less time to load than 5 years of quotations. Note that you can also select the quantity of quotes to load in "units". One unit corresponds to one trading bar. 50 units therefore correspond to 50 trading bars. On a daily view, 50 units therefore correspond to 50 trading days or 10 weeks of quotations. We advise you to create at least 2 templates (please refer to the corresponding section). For the first template you choose a shorter duration for a quicker loading process. For a deeper analysis you choose a template with a longer 'Duration'.

21 / 143

History and timescale

Middle drop-down menu: representation of each candlestick or bar chart Changing the timescale resolution will directly affect the meaning of each candlestick (or bar chart, or any other chart type chosen in the 'Style' drop-down menu in the 'Properties Price' menu). The view resolution defines time represented by each candlestick. For instance, each candlestick will represent 5 minutes of trading orders if you select "5 minutes" in the middle drop-down menu. Note that you have the choice between minutes, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly resolutions. The tick by tick option is a new feature, allowing you to display prices as soon as they are generated on the market in real-time.

Calculation method The weekly representation for instance, the open, high, low, close prices are respectively the Monday opening, the highest, the lowest during the week and the Friday close of each week. The volume in this mode is the sum of the volume of the 5 trading days of each week. Bear in mind that changing timescale resolution affects all charts, indicators and trendlines. You can also display a "tick by tick" table that contains all the ticks of the day for a selected quote. Columns can be sorted by left-clicking on the column head you wish to sort.

Draw ing introduction

Drawing introduction This section will show you three different examples on the usage of the drawing interface. Please refer to the section 'Drawing tools' to read a complete overview of the drawing tools available.

Drawing lines You can draw support, resistance and channel lines. To do so, select the appropriate drawing tool among the icons in the main window displayed below. Left-click to define the first point of your line. Move the mouse cursor and click again on the left button to define the second point of the line. The line will be drawn automatically.

Adding comments Comments can be added to a chart using the icon " T " among the icons in the main window displayed above.

Modifications Our trader's workstation allows you to modify and tweak every setting, parameter or drawing element in a chart. To do so, click right button on the corresponding drawn element.

23 / 143

Draw ing tools

Drawing tools The following guide will help you understand the use of the different tools located on the "Tools" menu. Each tool will be studied hereafter, from left to right. Tip: Clicking on the right button of the mouse will cancel the action of any tool described in this section. This is useful when you click on the chart by mistake, having previously clicked on a tool icon.

A. Cursor Mode (Default Mode) The icon corresponds to the Cursor Standard Mode, which is selected by default. Left-click anywhere in the chart, hold it down and move your cursor. The chart will display different sections of the chart along the horizontal and vertical scales.

B. Create an Alert The icon allows you to create an alert. Click on the 'bell' and then in the chart displaying the security upon which the alert will be set. Please refer to the section 'Create alerts' for details.

C. Zooming into the chart The icon is the zoom button. Left-click to set the first date of the time period which you wish to zoom. Move the mouse and click again on the left button to set the second date. Note that on a zoomed view, you can use the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the chart to see quotes from previous or later dates with the same zoomed view.

D. Drawing a segment or a line The icon allows you to draw segments. Left-click on the chart area where you intend to set the first point of your segment. Next, move the mouse cursor and left-click again to set the second point of the segment. The segment will then be drawn automatically. The icon allows you to draw lines. The method to draw lines is similar to the method of segment drawing. Left-click to define the starting and end point of your line. The

icon allows you to draw horizontal lines.

The

icon allows you to draw vertical lines.

Tip: Let the workstation assist you when drawing a line ! The drawing assistance can be selected on the menu 'Options': Go to the menu 'Options' and check "Drawing assistance".

Draw ing tools

It helps you to draw support and resistance lines: each time you place the mouse cursor near a specific point in the chart (high, close, open) or near an indicator specific point (bollinger, oscillator..), this point will automatically be the starting point of your line. The Drawing assistance will help you to find the second point of your line.

E. Drawing Fibonacci lines Select the Fibonacci levels icon and click with the left button on two points in the chart to define the two extreme points of the Fibonacci levels. A series of horizontal lines are drawn at the Fibonacci levels of 0.0%, 23.6%, 38.2%, 50%, 61.8% and 100% of the trendline. Fibonacci levels can be customized using the "Properties" feature, accessible in the toolbar of the main window by clicking on this icon: the vertical scale.

. The lines will keep their previously existing levels even as you modify

F. Typing text Clicking on the icon allows you to add text on the charts. Once the icon is pressed, you can click anywhere on the charts to type your text. A window will automatically open, allowing you to select the text's font, size, style and color. Click on Close to confirm your choice. Bear in mind that you can modify the place in which the text is situated (refer to paragraph H) and the style options of the text (refer to paragraph J).

G. Copying an object The icon represents two parallel lines. This button allows you to make a copy of any line, but also of any text element in your chart. Simply click on the object to copy and click anywhere else on the chart to paste the new object. Note that when you approach an object, this object turns to light blue, indicating that you can already click with your left mouse button to select it ; it thus prevents you from having to aim precisely on the object, giving you a wider area in which to click.

H. Moving an object The button is very similar to the previous one, in the sense that instead of copying an object, the same procedure will move any object you have selected. This feature is very much like the 'cut and paste' function in word processing software.

I. Deleting an object Click on this deleted.

Create SMS alerts

Create SMS alerts SMS alerts give you the ability to get real-time trading alerts and follow your investments even while away from your computer. a specific price; a specific time of the day; standard technical analysis indicators. Due to regulations, SMS alerts cannot mention specific real-time price or volume levels of securities other than Forex currency pairs. If you set an SMS alert on one of these securities, the SMS alert for this security will contain the mention 'Alert Level Reached' (indicating that the price or volume alert level you set has been reached).

Tip: You can specify the type of alert signal: 'Enter Long', 'Enter Short', 'Exit with gains' (ex: stop profit alert) or 'Exit with losses' (ex: stop loss). The type of signal will be included in the SMS. You can create alerts based on only one condition, or on the simultaneous occurrence of up to 4 conditions in order to trigger the SMS alert. Once the alert is created, it will be triggered even if the workstation is closed. The moment the conditions you set are met, an SMS message will be sent to the mobile phone number specified by you. At the same time, an alert will also be triggered on your workstation if it is open at the time. To avoid unnecessary consumption of your SMS credits, every SMS alert that is triggered will become inactive afterwards. For an alert created on a specific price level, you may then choose to re-activate it. You can also delete any alert next time you open the workstation. Here are the steps needed to create an alert:

To create an alert, you first have to click on the

Options menu

Fit all windows to screen size - Useful when you work on different computers and you want to fit automatically your windows to the new screen resolution. Simultaneous reduction of all windows - Checked if you want to minimize every window of the workstation when you minimize any single one of them. If this option is unchecked, each window can be minimized separately. A particular case concerns the main window: no matter whether this option is checked or not, minimizing the main window will simultaneously minimize every other active window. Cursor type - Choice for the mouse type, between the standard mouse arrow (select 'Circles'), the vertical line ('Line'), the horizontal-vertical line ('Cross') and nothing ('None'). Cursor mode after each drawing - Once you have drawn the object (line, text, Fibonacci...), the workstation will switch to the Cursor mode allowing you to translate the chart by left-clicking on the charts, holding down the left button and moving the mouse. If this preference is unchecked, you'll be able to draw as many lines as you want without having to click each time to the 'line' button of the toolbar. Drawing assistance - This feature helps you drawing lines: each time you place your mouse close to any particular point of a chart (extremum, close, open quote), the first point used to draw the line will be this specific point. The second point used for drawing the line can be another particular point of the chart (extremum, close, open quote). Lines displayed on inferior time units - Each time you draw a line, you may want to report the line in smaller views by checking this option. For instance, all the trendlines drawn in EOD views are available in Intraday views. Our workstation includes an exclusive "reporting process" that guarantees the quality of the reports from one view to another.

Display objects - Checked if you want to display all the trendlines, objects and comments you draw on the charts. Tip: Should you ever lose your studies, note that in most cases this "loss" is due to this option being unchecked. In such cases, simply check it again to get back your studies. Display comments - Checked if you want to display a box in all your charting windows where you may enter your comments and save them. Don't forget to save your comments before leaving by clicking on menu 'File / Save' of the main window. DDE data export

DDE data export What is ProRealTime DDE? ProRealTime DDE plugin (prortdde.exe) is a handy tool that enables you to export the real-time datastream of ProRealTime in any software compatible with Microsoft DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange, a feature present in softwares such as Excel). The ProRealTime DDE plugin downloads the real-time datastream from the workstation and ensures that you generate the correct codes to export it in your own software. This is very easy to do - and the advantages are substantial. Plus, the ProRealTime DDE plugin is 100% free. In this section, we explain how you can install and activate ProRealTime DDE plugin.

Start with ProRealTime DDE Please note that you need to have real-time data access on the securities you wish to apply the DDE Plugin. Next, please note that ProRealTime DDE plugin only works when your Complete workstation is running AND when the list containing the mentioned securities is displayed. Here are the steps you need to follow to use the DDE link: First of all, verify that the DDE feature of the workstation is checked as shown below.

87 / 143

DDE data export

Next, download and launch the file 'prortdde.exe' on your computer by clicking on the link shown below: Click here to download the 'prortdde.exe' plugin

Note for Windows Vista Users: To launch DDE correctly if using Windows Vista, please right-click the DDE program icon and select "Run as administrator" to launch the program. Tip: Select "Save" instead of "Open" and choose the directory of your hard disk where you want to download the file. For example, you can save the executable file on your desktop so you can launch it quickly. Or you can save it in another folder, create a shortcut (by right-clicking on the file), then place the shortcut on the desktop or the 'Quick Launch' bar. Do you get an error message while starting 'prortdde.exe' ? That means that some files are missing in your operating system. To make sure that the configuration is correct, you will have to follow this procedure: Start by closing the workstation. Download all files listed below into one folder. (please note that these files MUST be in the same directory as the 'prortdde.exe' file to work properly). Click here to download "mswinsck.inf" Click here to download "mswinsck.ocx" Click here to download "mscomctl2.exe"

Once you have downloaded the files on your harddisk, right-click on "mswinsck.inf" and choose "Install". Next, right-click on "mscomctl2.exe" and choose "Open". Follow the complete installation procedure. Finally, launch again the workstation. Make sure that the DDE feature of the Complete workstation is checked, and the list of securities is displayed.

As soon as the file prortdde.exe has been launched, a new window appears like the one below:

Simultaneously, a new icon appears on your windows taskbar:

That's it ! Your ProRealTime DDE export link is now up and running.

Datastream selection In the DDE window, you can select the kind of data that is exported into your DDE enabled software. Although there are 3 default columns (Ticker, Name, and Last), there is a larger choice of data available to export into your software, as shown below:

89 / 143

DDE data export

IMPORTANT: The data coverage that is exported into your DDE enabled software is exactly the same as the data coverage displayed in the "Lists" window in the Complete workstation. Therefore, if you change the list in "Lists" window, the previous data coverage won't be exported anymore. So the DDE plugin allows you to export real-time data of a maximum of 50 securities.

Export ALL data into Excel As an example, we'll explain you how to export all the data available in one of your lists (either your customized list or any default list). We assume that you have access to the "Euronext Indices" list. If this is not the case, you can use any other security you have real-time data for. First of all, you need to display the window 'Euronext Indices' on the Complete workstation. Then, in the DDE plugin, open the menu "Copy DDE link" and choose "All items in excel". Open your Excel software and click on the field where to export your data. Then select the "Edit" menu and choose "Paste" (please note that you can also paste it by using the function Ctrl + V). That's all ! Are your decimals displayed incorrectly? Go to the "Extra" menu in the DDE program and check or uncheck the option "Comma notation" to ensure the decimals are displayed as you want them to be.

DDE data export

Export Specific data into Excel As a specific example, we will explain you how to export the open and last price of CAC40 index. We assume that you have access to this index in real-time. If not, you can use another index or security you have real-time access for, since this demo works with any kind of security. First of all, you display the window 'Lists' on the Complete workstation and choose a list that contains the CAC40 index (i.e. CAC40, Euronext indices, World Indices, etc.). If none of your current lists displays the CAC40 index, you will need to add this index to your customized "MyList" list and keep displaying the list while using the Excel export. Let's assume that you are displaying "Euronext Indices" in the Complete workstation. Click on the "CAC40" line on the DDE plugin, select "Copy DDE link" menu and choose "Last" like shown below:

Note that your existing indicators may be used as functions within your new indicator. The possibilities are endless ! - the green area corresponds to the parameters section. For instance, Stochastic has usually %K and %D parameters. The idea is that you can create all the parameters of your new indicator by using the "Add" button. There is no limit in the number of parameters allowed. When clicking on this button, a new window like the one below will appear. There you can configure the parameter in many different ways, such as: the label of the parameter used in the program (usually short names like "MA","b","BID"...), the label of the parameter displayed in the Properties window of your new indicator (for instance, "Number of days" or "Applied to" or "Period Shift" ...), the type of the parameter (Integer, Decimal, Boolean, ...), other possible restrictions.

First, click on the button "Indicator / Backtest". Then go to "ProBacktests" in the top left corner, click "New ProBacktest" and choose the "Buy" button to define your buying conditions. Finally, click on the Stochastic chart. The following window will appear:

ProBacktest module

As you see, the results are not so good. Let's click on the "Tool" icon of the Equity curve as shown below (outlined in yellow):

and then on "Modify ProBacktest". Let's create a variable instead of the number 150 for the moving average. To do so, remove the number "150" from the program and write "number" instead. Then click on the "Add button" of the field "Optimization parameters" and choose the settings below:

121 / 143

ProBacktest module

and click on "OK". Finally, click on the button "Validate program". After a few seconds, you get an optimization report that gives you the best strategies upon different criterias like net profits, Maximum DrawDown, % winning trades... The results of our optimization are poor since the best detected strategy is a losing strategy. To improve it, you could try to add new conditions like buying signals only if the %K is below a variable named 'BuyingLevel'. This variable could in turn be optimized between 15 and 40... With ProBacktest, all your ideas can be tested ! On the window 'ProBacktest programming', you can apply far more sophisticated functions by using our Functions library which you can access by clicking on the button "Insert function" as shown below.

A window appears with all the functions available with ProBacktest module and the corresponding help. By clicking on "Add", you can insert this function in your program at the location of the mouse cursor.
