A note by Franco Cardini on the presence of Islamic art in Florence introduces this number of «Firenze Architettura», devoted to the trans-cultural nature of type, to its migrating through time and space. Among the projects presented, Paolo Zermani's reconstruction of the Castello di Novara is an essay on the «fair memory», as well as a attentive work on type and on the 'body' of the building, while the Mexican and Burkinabe architectures of the TALLER | Mauricio Rocha + Gabriela Carrillo and of Francis Kéré confirm the universality and atemporality of the courtyard as compositional principle. The fundamental lesson of the modern bears witness to the mutation of the Western type under the influence of faraway atmospheres, to the transposition of an archetype (the Palace of Knossos) among the alleys of a Genoa destroyed by bombings, but also of the typological and figurative polysemy of architecture in a place that has always been at the crossroads of East and West: the Turkey of Cansever and Sedad Eldem....
