Annual Report 2008 President’s Message It is my sincere pleasure to welcome you to the pages of this publication as we reflect on the many and varied accomplishments Dickinson State University has achieved in the past year. We have accumulated many wonderful memories and realized numerous institutional accomplishments, all of which were made possible by a spirit of collaboration and cooperation between DSU and the community, region and state. 2008 was a momentous year in many ways, and marked the 90th anniversary of Dickinson State University. Only by reflecting upon DSU’s rich past and embracing its vibrant present can we look toward building a strong and dynamic future. DSU is an institution that has consistently made a significant contribution to its constituents throughout its 90 years, but this is a reciprocal and, in many ways symbiotic, relationship. The city of Dickinson and the region of southwest North Dakota have consistently supported this institution as well, from its inception as a State Normal School to its status as a fully accredited baccalaureategranting institution. During the fall of 2008, we formed a committee and started a conversation regarding a plan for the next five years. We believe it is imperative to be intentional in planning the direction the university takes, keeping always in mind the fundamental goal of preparing our students for the world they will enter upon graduation. This is an era of unprecedented change. Part of our challenge as an institution of higher learning is to maintain solid grounding in good citizenship, service and core values while adapting to the phenomenal changes both technologically and culturally that our world represents and that our graduates will face. While we know there will be challenges, by building on the solid foundation of the past, I have every confidence that we will achieve success through thoughtful planning, cooperation and collaborative effort. I hope you enjoy this small glimpse of the many successes DSU has enjoyed during the past year. Thank you for taking the time to allow us to share these successes with you.
