OCTOBER 2013

Upper Kindergarten Teacher Margaret and Rose Dear  Parents,   At  the  beginning  of  the  school  year  we  were  very  excited  to  have  your  child  at  school.   During  the   past  weeks  we  have  had  so  much  fun  getting  to  know  each  other  and  becoming  familiar  with  our   daily  routine.  It  was  great  exploring  and  learning  through  the  “All  About  Me”  theme.  We  learnt   songs,  read  books,  and  did  body  movement  activities  and  modeling.   We  are  looking   forward  to  a   wonderful  term   ahead!

Reception Teacher Amos This  half  term  has  been  a  very  busy  one  with  lots  of  improvement  from  every  of  my   pupils.  I  am  most  grateful  to  all  parents  for  helping  their  children  in  one  way  or   another  to  see  that  they  perform  better  at  school  both  academically  and  discipline-‐-‐-‐   wise.  The  term  has  been  an  exciting  term  with  numerous  innovative  activities.  We   have  learnt  so  many  things  so  far  through  various  trips,  projects  and  visits  to  the   greater  community.  We  also  had  an  activity  day  where  children  brought  their  toys  to   school  and  used  them  as  learning  resources.   We  look  forward  to  continue  to  make  learning  fun  in  the  next  half  term.  Enjoy  your   mid  term  break.

Year 1 Teacher Ann

.

Make me a passport please

The  first  half  of  this  term  was  such  an  amazing  one,  Year  One’s  were  able  to  review  on  all  that  they  did  in   the  reception  level  and  had  a  good  go  to  the  Year  One  concepts.   They  brought  photos  of  their  family  while  on  holiday  and  they  had  to  match  the  photos  to  their  holiday   destination  on  a  world  map.  How  fun  was  their  first  geography  lesson.   In  the  science  lesson  the  young  explorers  learnt  about  living  things  and  took  a  short  walk  to  the  beach   and  picked  anything  they  could  find  be  it  a  live,  once  a  live  or  never  alive  and  categorize  all  these  in  their   classroom  science  corner,  they  also  had  a  trip  to  one  of  the  nearby  farms  and  were  able  to  see  all  these   living  things  for  real  and  ask  question  they  wanted  to  know  about  them.   The  young  explorers  are  eager  and  can’t  wait  for  the  2nd   half  of  the  term  as  they  know  they  need  a   passport  to  travel  outside  the  country…..the  question  is   ”how  are  they  going  to  get  a  passport  each?”  All   in  the  next  coming  half  of  the  term  in  their  geography  lesson….

Year 2 & 3

Teacher Meg

The  first  week  of  opening  school  was  very  much  a  settling  in  process   into  new  class  work  for  both  year  levels.   Our  central  theme  has  been  celebrations  and  with  the  two  classes   getting  to  know  facts  about  ‘’Remembrance  Day’’  in  History  lessons.   It  was  an  interesting  and  fascinating  experience  getting  to  know  how  a   poppy  flower  was  adopted  as  a  symbol  of  Remembrance  of  the  people   who  died  to  date,  that  the  flower  was  the  only  thing  that  managed  to   grow  and  how  it  brought  life,  hope,  colour  and  reassurance  to  those   who  were  fighting  in  the  First  World  War.  The  children  made  their  own   poppy  flowers  and  also  did  some  drawings.   I  look  hope  that  you  all  enjoy  your  mid  term  break!

Year 4 Teacher Lyndah The Year 4’s started this school year full of enthusiasm. They have all displayed confidence in their work despite this being their first experience in year 4. They have displayed such curiosity and interest in their studies, especially in research work. At first they all thought that this was going to be a challenging year but now they have all embraced with a positive attitude the new change of year group and study matter. So far they have managed to have loads of fun interactive learning and they have successfully accomplished the study targets that had been set out for this half term. They are looking forward to continue with the same zeal.

Year 5 Teacher Julian As  half  of  the  term  draws  to  a  close,  I  thank  all   who   made   Year   5   such   a   success.   We   undertook   great   learning,   great   teaching   and   great  fun.   The         pupils         followed         INSTRUCTIONS         in   Literacy  and  were  able  to  make  pumpkin  soup   and   baked   a   cake.   They   dressed   up   as   chefs   too.   In   Geography,   we   visited   a   farm   and   learnt  a  lot  about  water.  In  science,  we  made  a   model   breathing   system   using   a   tube   (trachea),   balloons   (lungs),   bottle   (chest)   and   rubber   sheets   (diaphragm).   This   helped   discover   how   air   moves   in   and   out   of   the   lungs.
