Trenton Girls Volleyball

Fall Sports 2013

THS GIRLS VOLLEYBALL The Trenton High School Lady Bulldogs volleyball team is coming off one of the most successful seasons in school history, one that saw the squad win eight games and place second in the Lathrop Tournament. Trenton will look to continue the program’s march towards respectability this season, but will have to do so without some key players from last year’s team. Kate Ewald, Gwen Delp and Katie Ireland are all gone and Trenton will look to a handful of returnees and a talented freshman class to keep last season’s momentum going. “We lost our setter, our main digger and our big middle from last year,� Coach Brett Ewald said. “We lost some key players, but we have some girls who are stepping up and working hard so we will see what happens.� Lakisha Hughs does return for Trenton and that will give the Lady Bulldogs a solid presence on the

Hughs led the team with 123 kills last year. “Lakisha looks great so far this season,� Ewald said. “She is hitting harder, she is jumping higher and we are hitting from the weak side instead of the strong side this year because she is a lefty and it works better for her. Getting that year of experience in last year helped her

Wiggins had 10 blocks last season and tallied 41 kills. “I really need Bekah Wiggins to step up this year,� Ewald said. “She needs to be a power offensive player and she needs to be blocking on
