August 2011

Message from Diana Williams, CEO

Jen Svejda and I just celebrated our 3rd anniversary with the Woodland Hills~Tarzana Chamber of Commerce. This has been much more than a job. It is fulfilling the need for community that sometimes gets lost living in a big city.

Sense of community is what I have known my whole life. Small towns make it a point to shop and support locally. That is, if the service you need is available locally. It was our friends and neighbors we would ask to refer us when we needed to go out of our community to find things that were not available to us locally. The reason it was so important to us to shop and support locally is because those business owners were our friends and neighbors. That’s what the community of the Woodland Hills~Tarzana Chamber is to

me. It is extended community and in some cases, family. My hometown Facebook page is delightful. They post the city ordinances reminders and post about supporting one another. They paint the dugouts, pull the weeds and would be more than slightly embarrassed if they were caught littering. So for three years, our staff goal has been to get you busy. Every one of your businesses, large or small, have been part of our commitment.

We have reminded you to support each other and to use the directory as your first source for all your needs. Our Connection Circles are deepening that conviction. These circles remind us that our community allows us to refer to our extended community. Leads and referrals should be top of mind. Be proud to recommend a fellow chamber member.

Thank you for a wonderful 3 years and here’s looking to many years to come with this wonderful community. g

Jen says

If you are a business owner and unable to answer your phone your outgoing message is a great way to promote your business. A standard greeting in which the business name/owners name is not mentioned can leave the caller wondering if they have the correct phone number and if the business is legitimate.
