3.

Hazards Identification  Contains non-hazardous quantities of proprietary ingredients [OSHA Regulations (Standards29CFR) Hazard Communication-1910.1200(i)(1)].  The cell culture, being live, should be considered a potential biohazard. It is the layer at the bottom of the vessel.  The liquid covering the culture is an aqueous biological salt- and nutrient-containing medium, which also contains FBS, with one or more antimicrobials (penicillin, streptomycin, gentamicin and/or amphotericin B).  Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) may cause eye and skin irritation. May be harmful if inhaled and may be irritating to mucous membranes and upper respiratory tract. May be harmful if swallowed.  L-Glutamine may cause allergic skin and/or respiratory reaction. Irritating to eyes, respiratory system, and skin.  Gentamicin may cause harm to the unborn child. May cause sensitization by inhalation and skin contact. Irritating to eyes.  Penicillin G may cause allergic skin reaction, allergic respiratory reaction, slight irritation to the digestive tract, respiratory tract, eyes, and skin.  Streptomycin sulfate is very hazardous in case of skin contact (irritant), of eye contact (irritant), of ingestion, of inhalation.  Amphotericin B may cause severe allergic reaction with potentially lethal side effects.  Products containing human or monkey proteins, handle as if capable of transmitting infectious agents.  Warning: Primary monkey cell lines may harbor endogenous viruses such as simian viruses, foamy viruses, adenoviruses, Herpes B virus, etc., which may be hazardous to humans. The most common endogenous viruses are SV5 and SV40. Some of these viruses may be expressed only after the cells have been “stressed” by, e.g., environmental factors, age of the culture, or inoculation with a specimen or fresh medium. Consequently, all results obtained using this product should be reviewed by appropriately trained laboratory personnel, aware of the possibility that observed CPE may be caused by an endogenous virus as well as a virus in the specimen.  Personnel working with these cultures and specimens must be properly trained in cell culture and safe handling techniques.  If glass tube or shell-vial is broken, may pose a cut-skin hazard.
