ow Apple is also right at the top in the list of most expensive companies in the world: At the end of 2012, Apple was worth USD 484bn on the stock exchange; the shares increased by 29% in 2012. Second place goes to last year’s winner, Exxon Mobil, with USD 396bn; then come the Chinese companies – the oil company PetroChina, the mobile communications company China Mobile and the bank ICBC. Google has worked its way into 6th place. Europe is represented in the top 10 by Royal Dutch Shell in 9th place.

Jugendliche in der EU sind arbeitslos, mehr als jeder Fünfte unter 25 Jahren findet keinen Job. Die Europäische Kommission will mit einem Paket zur Jugendbeschäftigung Gegenmaßnahmen setzen. Österreich mit seinem erfolgreichen dualen Ausbildungssystem könnte hierbei durchaus als Referenz dienen, meinen nicht nur österreichische Arbeitsmarkt- und Bildungsexperten. In Österreich sind mit einer Arbeitslosenquote von 8,5 % im europäischen Vergleich verhältnismäßig wenige Jugendliche ohne Arbeit. > According to the latest Eurostat unemployment figures, the average unemployment among young people is already 23.4%. Almost 6 million young people in the EU are unemployed; more than one in five under 25 years cannot find a job. The European Commission wants to implement countermeasures by means of a package for the employment of young people. Not only Austrian labour market and education experts hold the view that Austria, with its successful dual education system, could serve as an example for this. In Austria there is an unemployment rate of 8.5% amongst young people – a relatively low figure compared to the European average.

Der Anstieg entspricht in etwa dem in USUnternehmen (9 %), liegt über dem weltweiten Durchschnitt (7,6 %) und übertrifft deutlich die Investitionen der japanischen Unternehmen (1,7 %). Vor allem in den F&E-intensiven Sektoren war zudem ein überdurchschnittliches Beschäftigungswachstum zu verzeichnen. > The EU Commission’s 2012 EU Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard reveals that in the year 2011, European companies increased their investments in research and development (R&D) by 8.9% (compared to 6.1% in 2010). The increase corresponds roughly to that of US companies (9%), and is above the global average (7.6%) and considerably higher than investments made by Japanese companies (1.7%). Furthermore, an above-average growth in employment was recorded particularly in R&D-intensive sectors.
