FEFLOW Introduction to groundwater modelling

This three-day, hands-on course provides you with an introduction to groundwater modelling using FEFLOW. You will learn the basic concepts of the software through building two and three-dimensional flow and solute-transport models applying the most important programme functions, including pre-processing, simulation and results evaluation.

FEFLOW/ FEPEST Introduction to model calibration, uncertainty analysis and predictive analysis

In this three-day hands-on course DHI-WASY will provide you with introductory training in FePEST. We will explain and discuss the basic PEST definitions required for understanding the FePEST interface and achieving FePEST best practice. Practical sessions will be provided so that attendees can gain experience in setting up a FePEST project and the required preliminary preparation in FEFLOW. PEST, developed by John Doherty, is the industry standard software package for parameter estimation and uncertainty analysis of complex environmental and other numerical models. With FePEST, the FEFLOW package now features a graphical user interface for easy integration of your FEFLOW models into the PEST framework. FePEST covers the essential PEST methods for automatic calibration and uncertainty/predictive analysis of FEFLOW models such as efficient definition of parameters (including the pilot-point method) and parallelization across local and wide area networks, interaction with the FEFLOW programming interface and immediate feedback of the PEST optimization progress.

This three-day, hands-on course covers the physical and modelling aspects of all the processes in the hydrological cycle. It provides hands-on experience with MIKE SHE's easy to use, model independent graphical user interface, as well as time for discussion related to hydrologic projects relevant to the participants. MIKE SHE is the most widely used software for fully coupled and fully integrated surface water and groundwater modelling. INTEGRATED URBAN WATER SYSTEMS (IUWS) Integrated modelling of water quality in urban areas

This two-day thematic course provides the theoretical basis for the modelling of integrated urban water systems. It includes some interesting case studies of practical applications and hands-on exercises based on the WEST software package. Both policy makers and the industry are increasingly realising the necessity of adopting an integrated approach to water management. Urban water management presents big challenges, but also great opportunities to minimise both the impact on the receiving water (and on the environment in general, e g energy and materials consumption, pollutants emission) and any costs. MIKE URBAN WATER QUALITY Introduction to the modelling of water quality in collection systems

This two-day, hands-on course gives you an introduction to model water quality in urban collection system networks using MIKE URBAN. The aim is to enable you to set up and run basic water quality models and to assess and present the simulation results. MIKE URBAN covers modelling of surface runoff, flows and water quality.

The water quality in the collection system and in the discharges/overflow has an impact on both the infrastructure and the recipients. The formation hydrogen sulphide in sanitary and combined sewer systems causes odour and corrosion nuisances as well as unsafe working environment. This is a serious problem, which affects large areas of a typical sanitary sewer system. The mitigation of the odour and corrosion damages is costly. Other examples are the combined sewer overflow to recipients, which impacts both the aquatic life and causes a health risk to human activities. QSAR TRAINING COURSE An introduction to the OECD QSAR Toolbox

This course gives an overview of the OECD QSAR Toolbox and explains how it can be used to estimate missing data. The aim of the course is to make you familiar with the Toolbox so that after the course you may be able to use the Toolbox to fill data gaps yourself. The QSAR Toolbox is used to fill in data gaps on toxicity and ecotoxicity data needed for assessing the potential hazards of chemicals. The Toolbox is mainly used: To group chemicals into categories when physiochemical and human/health and/ or environmental toxicological properties and/or environmental fate properties are similar or follow a regular pattern as a result of structural similarity. To fill data gaps based on read-across from one tested chemical to an untested chemical. To search for experimental results. COURSE DESCRIPTION

APPLIED TOXICOLOGY Two-day theoretical course

The aim of this two-day theoretical course is to introduce you to the fundamentals in toxicology and risk assessment, including the most important databases. After the course you will be able to participate in discussions about basic toxicology, and you will have a better understanding of hazard and risk assessment and how to carry out data searches on chemicals. At the course you will get a brief introduction to toxicology and its basic principles. You will also be introduced to guidelines for toxicological test methods, information searching in internet databases and methods for toxicological risk assessment of a substance. The courses include various hands-on exercises in how to find relevant information on chemicals from databases and web searches and how to derive a health based limit value for a specific chemical. Furthermore, the course includes brief lectures on combination toxicology and properties of nanomaterials - the new challenge in toxicology. COURSE TOPICS 

ALLERGENS IN FOOD Risk management in the food industry

At this one-day-course you will learn how to control allergens in a food production. Furthermore, you will learn how to incorporate risk assessment in overall risk analysis. Consumers can be allergic to an infinite number of ingredients. However, some allergens cause allergic reactions more frequently. As a result, labelling is required on food containing certain allergens. This includes food containing milk, wheat, egg, shellfish, fish, celery or mustard. It is vital that the labelling is correct as incorrect labelling may be fatal to allergy sufferers. For a food production comprehensive measures are required to keep track of allergens in production and packaging and on the labelling. We will guide you through the process - from identification of allergens to making the necessary provisions and fulfilling labelling requirements. COURSE TOPICS 
