Bulldog Exporting has given a new lease of life to London-based men’s skincare business, Bulldog. Expert advice and support from UKTI kick started the company’s launch into Europe. Building on this early success, its overseas business has since grown to account for 30 per cent of its revenue, selling in more than 14,000 stores in 13 countries across Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the US and South Korea. Its success in Europe gave Bulldog both the credibility and the confidence to venture further afield into Asia. Export Communications Review

An Export Communications Review (ECR) will help you develop an international communications strategy. This can help your business overcome language and cultural barriers. An ECR is particularly relevant when you are: • Challenged by a particular market, • Developing, updating or translating international pages on your website, • Embarking upon a trade show, mission or other tough overseas trips such as customer negotiation, distributor selection and market research, • Launching a new product range or service, • Considering a new route to market, • Updating or translating marketing materials for an international audience, • Tackling a new market, especially a ‘difficult’ one.

Export Growth Service

How the service works Your company will be assigned an accredited Export Communications Consultant. The consultant will then consider your company’s written, spoken and digital communications with your export markets, and agree to focus the review upon a certain market or upon certain export activities such as: • Press releases, promotional materials, catalogues and packaging, • Technical documentation and manuals, • Preparation for presentations and trade shows, • Relationships with agents and distributors, • International sales and invoicing processes, • Handling foreign phone calls and emails, • Training, recruitment and working with export staff, • Your web and social media strategy, • Promotion of the website in overseas markets, • Selling online. What you’ll get Once the review has taken place, you’ll receive a tailored report and action plan with recommendations. It will include: • A table of strengths and weaknesses of your current communications against international best practice – including written, telephone, faceto-face and electronic communications, • Information about identifying possible third party suppliers and relative costs to implement the recommendations, • ‘How to’ guides with more detailed advice on implementing recommendations. Cyclehoop London-based Cyclehoop specialises in producing innovative indoor and outdoor cycle parking solutions. The company has enjoyed tremendous UK success. Within four years of launch, Cyclehoop parking solutions were adopted by over 40 councils across the UK and granted a contract to build over 6,000 bicycle spaces around London for visitors to the 2012 Olympic Games. On consulting UKTI, they were advised to join UKTI’s Passport to Export programme, working closely with UKTI International Trade Adviser (ITA) Mel Langton and Sarah Carroll a Registered Export Communications Consultant, on an Export Communications Review. This can help companies improve their online visibility in overseas markets, including devising an international website strategy, tailored to the company’s individual requirements.

“It’s so important to focus on getting your website working for you – it’s your shop window, how potential customers will see you. But it’s not just about how the website looks; Sarah really helped us to develop our web strategy, considering every aspect of how to internationalise our business online. She helped us consider areas we hadn’t even thought of and I think it was this comprehensive approach that made all the difference.” Harriet Burnham, Marketing Manager, Cyclehoop
