Reading: Zeara Polo, A. 2010. Between Ideas and Matters.
According to Zeara-Polo, the diagram does not play a representational role in the design process but provides an organisational and can have a performative quality depending on how it is deployed. Explain how Diagram is different from Signs and Symbols? (100 words Maximum)
Relationship of sign between form and content is arbitrary and immaterial. However, diagrams do not provide a representational role for their dynamic object which sign do. The importance of diagram is in the level of physical constructs and organisational level concepts, where the property of performance depends on how the diagram is deployed. It can be utilised as a projective, produce new organisations, new sensations and moods. Not like other signs belong to a logic of representation but inaugurates a logic of sensation aimed at bringing forward new worlds, which allow the emergence of another possible world. Zeara-Polo defines diagram as a tool that describes relationships and prescribes performances in space. It always has a spatial correlation rather than abstract space. A potential of diagram is that may able to generate very complex organisations within a very simple diagram.

Angled exterior walls without any curved structure was inspired by origami art, which contain separated look but systematically connected form. While the aluminium cladding provided a huge relfective surface of surrounding. As a pavilion, uncoursed flat ground and wide ceiling shows a large public space for visitors and other users in different purposes, as well as provided a linear vision field and connected external elements such as light, wind and etc.
Reading: Hertzberger H. 2005. The in-between and The Habitable Space Between Things, from Lessons for Students in Architecture. Herzberger discusses how design should not be extreme in its functionality. Use your precedent study to explain how the pavilion allows for an appropriation of use. (100 words Maximum)
Herzberger argues that extreme functionailty in a specifically designed object makes it rigid and inflexible. In the reading, it points out the ‘in-between’ space offer a fiexible ‘casual’ opportunities and leave users freely to discover their own requires for this piece of space. As my understanding, the spatial design shoule be the core idea in pavilion context rather than a specify function area. The pavilion was emphasised public usage and strong purpose of ‘exhibition’, which provides flexible and multiple-used public space. Wide-open access and planning gives a usage like ‘audiorium’ with concentrated visitors’ flow in the centre area.
Isometric view: the modelling of Eighteen Turns(2001) by Libeskind
From the start, angled walls had to be adjusted by seeing four different views to ensure the size of the model to be in right track. The isometric view is taken from Southwest side of the pavilion, due to compare three others, this view can provide the most information of the digital model. Walls are added transparent effect to see the internal aluminum structure, interior opening space, as well as the overlapped interior shadow area. Exterior shadows are also provided to see interaction in time progress. During the observation while modelling, I learn some interesting facts of the pavilion in thresholds. By analysing the shadow study in three different time (9am 12pm 3pm), sunlight is typically focus on the ‘starting point‘, side of a footpath in the morning period. Differently, sunlight start to focus on other mean opening. In my opinion, it should be a kind of ‘welcome‘ expression for attract pedestrians. Sunlight and large opening space provide a sufficient preconditions for circulation. To form a flow, the importance of space arrangement always a core idea of inform a system. For the construction, the mean idea of origami technique by used large aluminum alloy that can provide stabilzation, budget control, as well as the property of this material - light reflection, to mirror the surrounding landscape. By previous reading, the concept of ‘accommodating potential‘ is well expressed in this pavilion, where the large structure, provide space for multiple usages such as lectures, parties and etc.

Circulation and shadow study
Threshold and Function/Status Evolution
The pavilion has multiple opening access, depends on the scale of an opening, two main access are placed at both side of the pavilion. By the analysis of shadow study, a circulation relation can be expressed. Morning period, the right side will be main entry, however , afternoon period, the function of access will change because of the sunlight position.
Similar to the discussion of circulation part, the access are sort of fixed, Nevertheless, threshold is not only means physical access, as well as a â€˜in-betweenâ€˜space in two different situation, which can be analysed as a function/status change. Basic on the threshold and the circulation, the space can add on more experience for user.

Plan shows exact location of the pavilion relates to the Serpentine Gallery, as well as the scale of the drawing.
Elevation shows the rough height (basic on the size of visitors) and shape of the pavilion. Angled surface is clearly shown.

3. Continue model other parts by using elevations. However, the direction seems not fit with the site plan.

9. Redo a clean traspearent top, and overlap step 7&8, to get shadow both of exterior and interior.
