The bigger picture Dexters may have started life nearly 24 years ago, but customers still find the Dexters difference a refreshing change, explains Founder and Chief Executive Jeff Doble

I

t all started in an office in West London in 1993 with a vision to change the perception of Estate Agents. As a qualified Chartered Surveyor Jeff Doble knew he could bring new standards and change how people saw Estate Agents: “I wanted to raise the professional bar and exceed customers’ expectations on what Estate Agents could be,” Jeff says. Dexters remains London’s only major residential Estate Agency that is a firm of Chartered Surveyors. This gives Dexters customers the unique reassurance of working with experts who adhere to high standards of regulation and ethical behaviour. Throughout the 90s, Dexters opened further offices in West London. As the business continued to grow, it reached across the capital. In fact, Dexters has been London’s fastest growing Estate Agency over the past 20 years and today has 28 offices in Central London, with more than 60 across London as a whole. “We’ve grown organically. This is down to the fact we invest in long-term relationships, which mean our people stay with us throughout their careers and our customers keep coming back again and again.” Jeff explains. This investment in the long term means more than 70 per cent of Dexters business comes from recommendations and referrals, while 90 per cent of Dexters managers have grown up in the company.

DEXTERS IN BRIEF Dexters has 28 offices in Central London and over 60 across London, selling and letting more than 12,000 properties a year. Dexters is London’s only major firm of residential Chartered Surveyors. Dexters Corporate and International Lettings team gets over 200 requests a week for prime London properties.

A driving factor behind both facts has to be Dexters focus on training and development. The firm estimates it spends around 10 times the industry average on training. The company’s commitment to investing in its people is evidenced by the fact it runs its own training academy. Jeff says: “If you go to a standard agent on the high street, the person you’re entrusting with your most important asset might have only been doing their job for a few months. At Dexters it takes seven years to come through our academy.” One of the key skills Dexters develops is excellent communication. This means all its customers benefit from a robust approach to keeping them informed throughout the sale or letting of their property. For anyone who has experienced the frustration of chasing their Estate Agents for status updates, whether they are selling or letting, this will be another reassuring point of difference. Looking ahead, the outlook is bright for Dexters, as well as the London property market. Jeff explains: “The distractions of summer 2016 caused some hesitation, but now people are taking a 10 year view. Buyers are jumping in, particularly where they see good location, good value or a combination of both. This means we’re extremely busy, with some record breaking results and strong expectations for 2017.” dexters.co.uk
