The Do’s and Don’ts of Coaching Do... Be patient, and make it fun. The more players enjoy the sport, the more they will want to play.

Don’t... Yell or scream at children. It is humiliating.

Make sure players experience performing the sport correctly. Condemn your players for poor play or failure. This develops pride and accurate fundamentals.

7

Use clear, comprehensive language, and demonstrate the described skills so that players will understand.

Continue to bring up failures long after they have happened.

Reduce fear. Humor is always effective, but sarcasm is not.

Make sports all work and no fun. Childhood is a time for exploration and joy. Let it be that way.

Use a step-by-step process to develop skills.

Critically compare players to one another.

Allow players to ask questions.

Dominate team meetings. Let players express themselves.

Be positive and convince players that they are making an important contribution to the team.

Rescue your players too soon. Allow them to feel out the situation before you intervene.

Registration

Registering for DARA programs is quick and easy! The following registration options are available: Early Registration: A minimum of three weeks will be allowed for early registration of programs. Registrations will be accepted on a first come/first served basis with payment. For programs with limited participant availability, registration will end when the stated available registration spots have been filled with paid registrations. For youth sports leagues, the number of teams that will comprise the league will be determined following the early registration period and late registrations will be accepted to fill each team with the maximum number of players. Late Registration: A limited number of late registrations will be accepted for programs that have not filled up during the early registration period. Once all teams have the maximum number of players, late registrations will no longer be accepted. Programs that are not considered athletic leagues will have the maximum number of participants accepted listed on the registration form. Late registrations will be accepted, as long as spots are available, until 5:00 p.m. the day prior to the second date of the program. Once the program has met for the second date, registrations will not be accepted. Participants registering after the end of early registration may not receive a program t-shirt and this date will be clearly printed on the registration form. All registrations received during the late registration period will be charged an additional $10.00 fee over the program cost. Those registering late who will not receive a program t-shirt will have $5.00 deducted from their program registration cost.
