Essentially we use the kite to whip ourselves into waves like a Jet-ski and tow surfer, but the wave is riden like a surfer. We ride the same boards that we surf and this bridges the gap between surfing and kiting, its the driving force behind our vision. We aren’t trying to compare the two, nor claim kiting is surfing. We simply want to showcase the options of using a kite to ride the waves when it’s windy or over crowded.

Early Windsurfing Days Pete helped define the shape of professional windsurfing for nearly two decades by bringing his own class of surf style, eventually winning the world title in the surf category. Setting up a shop in his backyard, he started to churn out board shapes under his own label Cabrinha Design.

I’m proud to announce I’m hosting my first ever big air competition in my hometown of Cabarete in the Dominican Republic. With the help of Red Bull Caribbean we’re throwing a huge bash this weekend where it’s all about how high you can fly with your kite. Some of you might remember the prestigious “Red Bull King of the Air” held in Hookipa, Maui which was the debut of my career back in 2003. I used to love the big air style because I believe it expressed how diverse and impressive our

Susanne Mai born on May 18, 1984 started kitesurfing at the age 18, which is a little late comparing to her Red Bull Team mate and rival G.Pulido who is yet to turn 18. Being a natural for kitesurf she took second place at her first cup competition. Only sport experience before that was the time spent on the PlayStation. She spent her childhood living part time in Germany and part time in southern Italy where her parents, both a windsurfers, ran a windsurfing school. She attended private Elementary- and High-school and graduated in 2002. Among all winning in her career one of the bigest moment was winning the first King of the Air in Maui, which is considered one of the most prestigious events in kiteboarding. So far she has been titled ‘Queen of the air’ three times and for her determination we should watch out for her in the future period. Her popularity grows around the globe through the Red Bull Web TV channel, but also at the sites where she performs live her stunts in front of the adrenaline hungry viewers and for Global Blitz Trippin’ shows.

My father Flavio is a windsurfer since 20 years, so when kiteboarding arrived in italy he was one of the first trying it out at our spot. He didn’t got hooked that much, he’s kiting now only when the wind is light, and still windsurfing when conditions are stronger! I definitely got hooked up, as my spot is not much a windsurf place because the wind is very light most of the time. I was much lighter when I started kiting, so i was out in the water pretty much the whole time.

The fact is, neoprene degrades naturally over time, generally very slowly, through oxidization. Oxidized material tends to contract and become stiffer. The effects of sunlight (specifically the UV ranges) and heat increase this process, with certain environmental pollutants also accelerating the effects. Suit life-time is therefore a function of the amount of time it is exposed to light, heat and the elements. Initial signs of degradation are the emergence of small splits / cracks across the outer surfaces of the suit that are most exposed to UV light (the shoulders, upper arms and back). Initial signs of degradation are to be expected after around 3 years of use, however environmental factors may reduce this.
